Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Bang! The ageist rant is no longer a secret

Stankey should have a nice read while he’s taking his afternoon dump.

“rule of 75 benefits”

The only benefits left are the cell plan discount and selected retirement gift made in China.

“it was the removal of promised benefits which was often a reason for remaining with the company”

Use your signed contract where the lifetime benefits were listed.

@g6 You completely missed the point. We were all told that these benefits would be available for us when we retire. For many, it was too late to go elsewhere to earn the benefit. It was not the surplus event, it was the removal of promised benefits which was often a reason for remaining with the company in the first place.

“to someone who put a career in expecting these benefits and were told "leave if you want them". “

That’s on you. T has had so many layoff and surplus events over the years no one should have ever expected lifetime employment.

There will be settlements. That’s just how this works

It's a shame if this happens because T will simply not claim fault.

@df

I saw santone shaking her head in agreement as these policies were announced.

1 year in advance isn't any way commendable to someone who put a career in expecting these benefits and were told "leave if you want them". And even less commendable to those who were a few years short of even qualifying.

@f9 He’s almost as stupid as the president and it is illegal to target “geriatrics”. Swap in black for old and see how that plays. According to the law, it’s essentially the same thing. And Stank himself is a “geriatric” who needs to exit stage right post haste.

Three year olds and people with dementia lack a filter. That doesn’t make them qualified to be CEO of a Fortune 500 company, just as Stankey isn’t qualified.

T’s employee demographic skews geriatric. This is basic fact. There is nothing wrong with having an honest conversation about this. John’s lack of filter should be commended. He speak is off the cuff not unlike the President.

I knew it was just a matter of time. I leaned forward and was like did he REALLY just say that. They should file a class action on him. I know a few older employees who were let go and not because of RTO. Sure it was their time but bozo made that age comment so class action it should be.

"These policy changes were announced well in advance. "

Less than a year is not "well in advance" to change a 5-10 year medical subsidy unless you have no intention of being sick.

I'm all for blaming Stank for his ridiculous comments but Lee is front and center enforcing all of this. Nice to your face, kn--e in the back mentality.

“removing medical subsidy, then full reire benefits, then vacation cut.”

These policy changes were announced well in advance. Most elderly employees were contacted individually to ensure the medical benefit impact was fully understood if staying on. Choices were made.

Yah so... Stanky will continue to fail up the ladder and you AI trainers will get extra culture training. These corporate whistle blowing issues always cascade back down to the servants.

Here’s the thing folks. There will be no trial à la A Few Good Men, with Stank on the stand and Tom Cruise saying “you despise older workers, don’t you?!!” and Stank finally caving in “YOU'RE DANG RIGHT I DO!!’” — it’s not going to happen.

There will be settlements. That’s just how this works.

It’s still a win. Because they did not want this getting out there. And the cat is now out of the bag. And they are going to have to be very careful about the demographics of the folks they are letting go.

Oh, and Stank must be absolutely livid. Big win.

I hope that the HR “Leadership” (Santone/Lee) are pulled into it as well.

Thinking same thing but also Legg.

Santone discrimination of removing medical subsidy, then full reire benefits, then vacation cut. All hitting older workers with leave now or lose time frames attached to the 2 former. Probably more.

Legg saying during town hall about the same time as Stanks comments, that nobody would be forced to move--all handled thru attrition. Then a few months later he pulled out the first wave relocation slides. Something happened behind closed doors that he did a 100 degree.

For most of my career at ATT I was not colocated with my boss. My first boss told me I could work a hybrid 3x8 schedule. My next boss was also in another city and he let me work 5x8 because we were not colocated and the groups we supported were all over the world. That boss even allowed me to work from different areas, and not just my personal dwelling. He did not care because I got my work done and was available when needed. However, even when I was colocated with my supervisor I was told we were a hubrid 3x8 work force. Even Randy Stephenson supported hybrid workforce. So yes, we were! Before Stank decided that he wanted to reduce head count without paying severance, working hybrid was an importan part of the work/life balance that the current C suite is trying to get rid of

@bm had the exact same reaction to what Stankey said as you. When I have worked for competent CEOs, they have always been VERY careful with their words. They knew everything they said had weight and implications. Stankey is incredibly arrogant and has zero EQ. Hence all the messes that have to be cleaned up in his wake.

What the lickers of boot fail to understand is that when you’re a CEO, you just can’t say things like that out loud. You can “think” it. You can put your dastardly plans in motion to implement it. But you can’t say it out loud, when thousands in the affected class are listening to you in real time. I’m 50 something. I couldn’t believe what I heard when he said it. Immediately messaged others on my team including my Boss asking “did he just say that out loud..”? From a legal standpoint it would be the same exact thing if he had said, “we just have too many POC working here”. The same exact thing. Protected work classes. Look it up. His arrogance leads him to believe that he will can and will say whatever he wants. They knew he sc--wed up after this one. Hence the MIA status for a while and the burning of the recordings. I’m glad it’s out there and I’m glad I talked to Business Insider about it.

What Mr. Stankey fails to understand is he alone is the problem at ATT. This company is stagnant and will continue on this path until he steps aside for a CEO with vision to take the helm.

I’d rather chase a lawsuit than admit I stagnated and didn’t upskill over the years to stay current in today’s workforce.

Hopefully the attorney’s in these cases file for Discovery and are able to retrieve evidence (smoking g-n) that supports the claims. It will be interesting to see if this goal was discussed by HR.
