Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Psychological Scam

I just finished watching the Manufacturing Town Hall and I get the distinct impression that we’re being scammed and manipulated psychologically by upper management. Chris kept saying over and over that “I know you want to see the Org Chart, but we’re just not ready to show it yet.”

Is he lying or are we being manipulated?

If the org charts are still being built, something is wrong at CVX and management is woefully unprepared for this. If they’re built and they are just withholding them, then we’re the punks for taking this.

How infantile. What is this anyway, the 6th grade gossip site?

In the 2020 reorg, I was led to believe that I could apply for an HR Analyst role only to find out that HR’s timing differed from other groups. If I waited to participate in the HR selection process I would lose my turn for the other groups.

This whole layoff business has been a mess for years and especially so this time.

The way this company is treating people, with ZERO concern for our livelihood and mental heath, really makes me want to projectile vomit at times. I can only wish and hope that it will happen on my last day, as I exit the building and bump into MW.

So in the last layoff they strung the CBRES people along, giving them hope about applying for jobs - half truths, incomplete information and fake empathy. They ended up outsourcing property management and giving the jobs to people that essentially were formerly Admins. I think this in retrospect will be looked at as a bad decision, but the unforgivable decision was continuing to string the employees along. Good people do not string people along with half truths and fake empathy - honesty and being up front are always better approaches. If you would not treat your children that way, you should not treat your employees that way.

I agree with you, the reason they are not showing the org charts is because there are entire teams which will no longer be located in Houston, San Ramon and other US BU's so once this is clear in the job posting process, people will emotionally shut down. By implying people may still have a chance (update your talent card), people are still working and getting some work done each week. Phase 1 will open job positions in late April and many people will discover their job position will be moved to another country. Then the company will have 6 weeks of disruption until some people will be offered 1) ongoing positions, 2) transition roles until the previous position can be moved completely.

It’s the absolute most absurd situation I’ve ever seen at any company. It’s mind blowingly absurd all of it and our mgmt should be deeply ashamed how this is being handled

@dn Yes, these cuts are going to be brutal. What are you going to do to stop it?

It should ev obvious by now that these cuts are going to be brutal. Like was said below. They’re giving significant time to mentally prepare and then they are going to release the list of jobs and there’s only going to be enough for 1/3 people, and the jobs listed most likely won’t have your current job. Any office roles with “busy work” or that follows step-by-step processes will be gone. That’s most of the early career jobs at chevron.

The go fwd org charts will reveal the true depth of change, severity of cuts and the staggering number of roles shifted to the MSP in India. Some groups/ teams will be stunned. They are waiting to show us until it’s time for urgent action and everyone must apply for jobs. They want a very short cycle of shock and awe. They will quickly fill the roles and swiftly exit those left standing. Think pulling the tablecloth from under the dinner setting.

“Great question”, “That is still being worked”, “We understand your frustration” and “We will update you as soon as we know that”. Fortune 500 company and more than 8 months into this debacle, you would think they would have it figured out, preliminary staffing numbers and ready to notify those employees who are in scope. Same group that oversaw renewal has brought us to this. Boy, I have so much confidence in the “Wirthless” led company. When is the BoD going to realize it may be time to move on from this?

I’m deeply amused by all you Chevron Stepford Wives who’ve never dared question the abject nonsense from management, only to now be waking to up to the obvious incompetence we stew in.

The only thing management has been doing up to now is their little game of thrones cosplay, fighting for their own name in a box, or negotiating golden parachutes. This is such a half baked sh-tshow. Hopefully this is a wake up call to all of us…

I’d let you know what I know but I don’t know anything yet but when I know, I will still tell you I don’t know until someone who also knows, tells me I can let you know what I know! Clear as mud? That’s what they pay me all those millions for….I’m exhausted now until the next townhall where I have to figure out how to tell people I don’t know anything for two hours and then tell them to scan the barcode to ask me any questions that I really can’t answer!

EOI plays a role in not completely knowing the final org chart, but there should have been a penultimate draft made a long time ago. They have nothing and are BSing their way through this layoff process. It's shameful considering thousands of people are in danger of losing their livelihood.
