Promotion in Fiserv

Wondering what’s the best way to get a promotion in Fiserv? Stagnant in the same role for over 3 years now. Doing some above and beyond once in a while if there’s opportunity. Please reserve the n4sty comments for a later time. Just sourcing some meaningful inputs would be appreciated.

I went from engineer to Manager, and then to Director by saying I had another job offer a few times over my stint at FISV. Just need to know when to bluff.

Leave for another company.

@jm That doesn't work. I see someone on my team do that for years. We are in the same boat. But I never had to do any of it and still here.

Your only real chance is applying to a different internal roll, I’ve only seen 1 person in my 4 years at Fiserv promoted while staying in the same team. Expect maybe a 10-15% bump at most

Maybe actually work, over perform, broaden your portfolio of work and collaborate with many people to help them perform better.

My rule of thumb is that it’s a lot easier to get a promotion if you’re already doing the job. Get engaged in the hot projects, go outside your role and take ownership of overall success. Get to a place where your bosses count on you. That being said, if your group or division is shrinking, there will be nowhere to move up to.

@df It isn't as if they pay at market level for location and experience to begin with. Taking what I can get and may look again real soon.

Look at your Department's organization and determine whether or not there are even additional levels to be promoted to. If there are none, start looking elsewhere. That is a department that has no interest in your professional advancements and fulfillment.

For a salary increase that will actually impact your lifestyle, you have to leave the company. Even if you get promoted at fiserv, you will probably only get you an increase in the low five figures. If you leave, however, we're looking at $20K, $30k and more.

Stack your resume with meaningful work and leave.

Be realistic: don't count on getting a promotion. If you aren't happy with your salary, leave for better or quit. It is similar to most multinationals.

Or you can just catch the executives doing something illegal like harassing, intimidating, and torturing former employees, and make real bank! FB and the former regime are the ones with the money. Current CEO is paid hardly a fraction of what they madhoff with

Either wait for the opportunity or find a new one elsewhere. Best chance is moving to another company

It is the same at Fiserv as any other company. You need to apply for a higher position at a different company.

At least if you want a pay increase with your promotion.

You have to be skilled, overwork and have proof of your work during the year to build your case but overall you have to be liked by your manager.

@OP depends on the location you work at and if you would be willing to move to Omaha or Berkley Heights. I hardly know of anyone getting promoted at the smaller locations.

I've been told the only way to get a promotion is to apply internally for a different job, or apply externally and say you're going to leave. You might get fired or promoted.

Quit and reapply. That was the only way I was able to move from one role to a better one. Fiserv never followed through when they promised to move me to a different position.

Although, you would probably be better off to find work elsewhere. Chances are you'd find higher pay and a better work environment. Good luck!

Do you work in the building where the execs are? If not, you’re in the highest position you’ll ever be.
