JL and Co. have been selling AI dreams, burning through millions of $$. The return on investment to date is negative. No measurable impact on the bottom line besides an occasional forced press release here and there with the word AI regurgitated a few times. JL has been stifling innovation across all categories at Nike and collecting his paycheck with 0 accountability. Fire the pseudo AI gurus, shut down ED&AI and put the capital where it belongs which is categories and other revenue generating business units.

@ct

Being busy doesn't mean anything in terms of layoffs at Nike.

The teams in Core ERP were very busy, but they all got cut, even though they were building and maintaining the "backbone of the enterprise" (as CF called it in her exit email). In that case, Nike decided they'd rather have Accenture do the work instead of long-time FTE employees. From what I saw, the Accenture people largely did not know what they were doing, had below average work ethic, and relied heavily on the expertise of Nike FTEs prior to the layoff. So, from that perspective, it didn't make sense to turn over the keys to those folks and stab the Nike employees in the back. However, I highly suspect that due to the change in Section 174 of the US tax code disallowing Nike to write off 100% of the technology development work each year might make the math of having FTE IT employees versus expensing the annual cost of a managed services contract with a 3rd party is what drove the decision. It's all about the money, and from what I've heard, EH (not being a tech guy) doesn't want to overly invest in tech compared to product innovation or sports marketing.

BTW, here's more info regarding the tax law I mentioned:

There is for sure, a reorg happening this week and next in GT…. Whether that equates to job loss, I have no idea.

June 15th is the next round of cuts, I was caught up in the end of May cuts. Tech is being outsourced to AC, if you’re in Tech you’re on the chopping block. Especially once SEC EMEA is live.

what I thought, after sec and cf we were done, at least for a while....kinda assume bad earnings in 3 weeks, unsure what effect that will have on layoffs

surely there is still a ton of bloat in GT, I wish they just pluck the top 1 or 2 top talent (maybe 4 people to be generous) from each of: atl, itc, ptc, make them remote, close those buildings, invest in whq and non remote roles, and get to work!

No clue what happened…did not lose anyone near my org that I know, so unsure what has gone down, or if it’s over. Kinda maddening.
