Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Some thoughts about layoff

I feel really frustrated today because some really good colleagues were let go. I don’t think it’s fair to layoff good talents just for cutting cost. Why don’t just cut everyone’s salary by 2% instead of cut 2% headcount? The only thing I learned now is loyalty and talent worth nothing. I used to love this place and stayed for several years because of good people and culture. Now, it’s just a place to receive paychecks.

Some of us didn't get raises, and we're barely making ends meet. I'm already making less than a Burger King manager, and I've been with this company a long time. The added drama of this latest round of layoffs really ki-led my spirit. It's time for me to go somewhere that will respect my graduate degree and give me a fair wage.

IF YOU WERE LET GO, REMEMBER, YOU WERE NOT FIRED, YOU WERE PART OF A RIF. YOU HAVE TALENTS AND GOOD COMES OUT OF BAD. DONT BELIEVE THE LEAK TO THE PRESS ABOUT UNDERPERFORMERS, ARTIFICIAL INTEL, ETC, BLAH BLAH. IT IS ALWAYS A MATH EQUATION THAT INVOLVES ALL TITLES AND INCOME LEVELS. YOU WILL BE FINE FROM THIS. STAY FOCUSED, NETWORK AND YOU WILL BE IN A BETTER SPOT. NOT FUN RIGHT NOW BUT YOU WILL LOOK BACK AND REALIZE, OK, THAT SU-KED BUT I’M WORTH MORE, AND MORE IMPT THAN ANYTHING…I’M A BETTER PERSON!

It was getting toxic. A part of me says good riddance, I cannot work in an environment where people get abused and talked down and have strong favoritism to one another. I am applying for jobs but man feels good to stay in bed for a letter longer without having to get ready to come into the office or get ready for a call.

I hate this company. I survived many layoffs for more than 10 years and to be laid off now made me feel so inadequate and rejected. I am however relieved to not have to be at this awful firm any longer. They are evil.

If it happens to you then ask the question "how was I selected?"
The process is probably score based and it is who makes the scores that matters, and they are not 360 based.
Check it out you might get some closure as to how a middle manager just gamed the system to preserve their own neck.
If you see someone good go... Look closely at their manager... It might make more sense that way.

I asked someone out before I walked out of the office. She was gorgeous and technically I am not an employee of the firm anymore. She told me to decompress and talk about it later since I was processing the layoff.

Zero loyalty. Zero respect. Zero morals.
All they care about is the bottom line, NOT their employees.
I am applying for external jobs aggressively, cannot wait to get away from here.

Or have a volunteer based layoff on department and sign up for it. ED or MD approves it and that should get rid of who wants to go. I hate that this company does not have a transition period. I myself in tech left a lot of code un-pushed and merged into production, but it is not my problem anymore.
