Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Is it a good time to move to Bank Fraud? Why are there so many roles?

I’m hearing that there’s going to be 40+ new Bank roles opening. I’m bored AF in my current role, but I’ve been hearing that Fraud has had a huge attrition rate and that they’ll be doing compliance work for the next few years.

Will it only be compliance work? Is it really a good opportunity?

Aren’t they trying a lot of innovative data science in Fraud?

USAA is under MULTIPLE consent orders with no way out of them all of these jobs arent cropping up because they want them to. If they do ever get out of the consent orders then these jobs will be bye bye

Bored is not a bad situation at USAA these days. If you have a decent boss you can work on skills, or look for jobs.

'Dumpster fire' is the other extreme. Running around finding quick bandaids when the patient needs surgery. Then, wondering why patient don't get better.

Just make sure the potential reward outweighs work-life balance, sanity, or risk of DNM or PIP (effectively ending your career at USAA).

@ccf+1tDMsPQ1, didn’t know there were layoffs! Would moving to Fraud be good for career growth to get understanding of the business area? I’m interested in continuing my reporting career in Fraud since it seems exciting, but not if I would only be doing paperwork

New leadership was brought in late last year. With the exception of 1 EMG, the rest were all laid off earlier this year. I’ve since left USAA so I don’t know all the ins and outs anymore of what the roles would be doing. Any time I tried to get anything from the analytics team, I was always told they couldn’t help me because they were understaffed and needed to focus on CO work. There will be job security for the next 5 or so years. But as I said, it’s a dumpster fire.

@ccf+1tDMsPQ1, is that why the current Fraud leadership is leaving?

What kind of work would the D+A side be doing? And is it true that they’ll be using a lot of AWS/advanced tools? Or will it mainly just be paperwork?

If it’s just paperwork…

There are so many roles because it’s a dumpster fire. There have been issues for YEARS that leadership didn’t prioritize because there were bigger fires, like AML. Now all of a sudden Fraud is in the spotlight, there are regulatory orders that are years old that still aren’t resolved, more to come, etc. It is the typical motive: bring in all new leadership, have an unrealistic timeline to get things done, therefore throw as many bodies at it as possible, then have no idea what to do with all these individuals once it all settles down.
