Absolutely. This behavior is normalized. Not just here, look at overall population. They are putting up with a lot. Daily dose of BS from the highest office of the land, relentless price hikes, war, nepotism, oligarchy, threat of AI. You name it. Almost 60% of population is just $1000 away from bankruptcy. Everyone is scared of losing whatever menial income they make. They have a rent or mortgage to pay, kids to feed, car loans, gas money etc. Therefore large swaths of society has become wage slaves.
File a complaint, get a lawyer, etc. Some act as if all these large employees give a cr-p about that. Probably already planned for some of it. We have become conditioned to this kind of behavior. Unless someone finds proof that we are ordering fiber that is being produced by forced labor from 10 year olds this has become the new normal.
Jokes apart, 996 is a thing. One of the senior leaders brought this up during a townhall. He was half serious. I think it's an indication where things might likely end up.
Employeers know all too well that the labor market is soft. And with the threat of AI hanging over your head, an employee has little very leverage in this environment.
Ask them to send that to you in writing and then file a complaint with the U.S. WHD.
