Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

RTO- bank holiday/PTO

Was informed by manager we need to adjust our in office days when there is a bank holiday or we use pto to still be in office 3 days. Asked HR via chat and was informed this is correct and there is a new article that can be found through the myhr web page. "Workforce strategy guide". Looking through the faq there is a clear question regarding making up holidays/pto and the answer is a clear no you do not have to make up time spent on vacation or out of office for bank holidays. When hr is giving mixed answers what the cr-p are we suppose to do? I want to follow the rules but not be je-ked around by management.

@165

Part of the decision making process for who gets laid off is looking at who is remote or not happily abiding by RTO. So it is definitely a topic that belongs here.

This is a layoff forum and yet here we are complaining about return to office. Sounds like some of you should be put on the top of the list.

For everyone in Minneapolis complaining about RTO a thousand Target employees are getting laid off this week. Many of them probably will gladly take your job. Stop being soft. Buck up!

You do not need to make up days.
Workforce Strategy Guide updated 10/15/2025

You do not need to make up sick days, vacation, volunteering, or bank holidays.

You do not need to make up days where you manager allows you to work from home due to illness or inclement weather.

I don’t have the option to work any days at home. I’m not trying to debate. You should be thankful you have flexibility with your role at the bank that many of us do not.

I have asked this before and have heard several different things from different leaders and communications over the last year. I’ll just say this I observe people pay grades above me not making up holidays or their pto in a short week. I have not heard anyone bring it up lately I just make sure I hit at least 11 a month in months I don’t have vacation. The only times I’ve not hit 100% is in months I took longer vacations.

@b1 I checked the FAQ when I got home and it's still very clear that you do not have to make it up. If managers are saying this otherwise I'd get it in writing and send it to HR for documentation purposes.

You do not need to make up PTO days.
They have discussed this on several calls.
I could see them forcing a holiday make up day.
As in you cannot use the holiday as one of your normal “in office” days.
If you needed to make up every sick, PTO, and holiday, you would be in the office around 15 full weeks a year. Not counting any sick time.

Ongoing efforts all the way around to make the rank and file as miserable as possible, hoping they will quit so they can avoid paying a penny of severance.

@OP coming into the holiday season a lot need clear guidance on this. In order for me to get 11 I'm going to have to come in damn near 5 days a week in December which is bullsh-t. Considering we can't carrying our time off this is just... Buh.

I asked this question several times and was told I did not have to make up for it. So now it seems to be confirmed that the longer you have been around and the more days you have off the more you still need to be in office.
