Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

The ultimate indictment of our culture

The most engaged employees are usually the ones who leave first. They still care enough to walk away. Which leaves us with people who don't care and it shows. I'm not attacking anybody, I'm one of them. I give my minimum because I don't care to give any more than that to this place. That's the kind of culture Allstate cultivates.

Until the employment landscape improves those who still know their worth and are producing will bide their time. Its only a matter of time before Allsnake will lose their top talent in droves.

Allstate is a declining company and has been that way for decades. Allstate pays less than industry. You get what you pay for.

It's a large, soulless, sclerotic multi national. For all the pretense to change, there's a pretty solidly ensconced layer of people in the middle who have been here for eons who will absolutely fight tooth and nail against any kind of change. They have a vested interest (political fiefdoms, bonus checks) in making sure that 1) 'engaged' employees get slapped down or leave the company because 2) if those engaged employees make waves, it might rock the strap hangers' boats. Because if the vast disconnected circuit between day to day reality and what the middle managers have painted for the people who can back and effect change gets closed, a lot of the middle layer would lose prestige and territory. Far better to shoot the messenger. And believe it that these people will die on that hill and take you and the company with them.

Remember the Simpsons episode where Tom Jones is forced at g-n point by Smithers to sing as some or other function? And Smithers is standing in back of him with a g-n in his back saying, 'That's right, keep smiling. Everybody's happy.' Perfect metaphor for Allstate's management culture.

Maybe : @d8+1jz6ejv9k should read the room. What has developed over time is a culture where 'engaged' employees (those you've accused of not 'doing something about it) have two choices after being slapped down enough times: Either leave or turn into a 'go along to get along' boot li---r. Perhaps instead of accusing people having a toxic attitude, take a look at what might be producing it.

This attitude is so toxic. The first sign of insanity is always doing what you’ve always done and expecting a different outcome. Masters of complaints but not willing or able it seems to do something about it and remove yourself if you are not happy. Happy to continue to fuel the fire of complaints but doing absolutely nothing about it!

Allsnake rewards the bootlickers who rely on the st-----g of their managers egos instead of actually being productive in their role. Those who are competent and productive are tasked with either carrying the slackers on their “team” and/or have your work or ideas stolen by your manager. Those who still have an ounce of self respect and drive always leave and yes the grass is greener.

For crying out loud, have some dignity and move on, blame yourself not the company, you are in control of your own career and happiness. If you are not happy - move and quit with the drama. It’s getting old!
