The Oracle Playbook- Is XOM Repeating the Cycle?

There’s an interesting parallel between what happened at Oracle and what seems to be unfolding at XOM. Oracle initially tried to cut costs by aggressively offshoring technical work, which created short‑term savings but also eroded internal capability. Later, when the AI wave hit, they had to rebuild expertise they had previously hollowed out.
XOM looks like it’s following a similar pattern: first pushing a low‑cost labor strategy, then suddenly pivoting toward AI without having the internal technical depth to support it. The result is the same structural tension.

India is sxxthxxe country because of the fuXk!ng British! The MFs looted India for ~150 years, stole all the gold/diamonds/tax money - did not return anything. Never assimilated where they lived.

The condition has nothing to do with people, last 75 years the country has made enormous progress after becoming independent.

@d5 amen to that. Gifted a pretty good hand with Guyana, Permian, etc.

The main things they come up with are cutting 5-10% of the workforce each year, reducing benefits, re-organizing, buying other companies to milk, and investing in things like H2. Not exactly inspiring business, or strategy.

Naturally, the solution is to just keep cutting things and milking the gravy trains until they run out? Oh, and maximizing their personal takes.

Here come the manager trolls to protect their bosses.

Your giving Xom LT a lot of benefit of the doubt they have a plan. To me looks like pds gone wild and no basic business sense on how to run a company. Toxic and favoritism also running a muck .

@a8 the problem is BTC worker culture. No ownership, use information as a tool for power and other bad behaviors. Training cannot overcome ingrained cultural behavior issues.

Wrong. Oracle spent too much on data centers. They did not manage their capex and now due to poor liquidity they must cut expenses. XOM was in thus position in 2020 when oil prices crashed. Now XOM cash gen is good and XOM can be disciplined about its path to cut costs in high cost countries. Oracle is in a rush. XOM can be patient and disciplined in its reduction to EU and US workforce. XOM can wait to make sure its Indian workforce is as effective as US / EU workers. This WILL happen, within 5 years. Then the Indian work force can be rapidly expanded. PS a 10 year employee is quite capable. A ten year employee in India at half the cost, can be 30% less productive and XOM will be ahead. But Indian's are not LAZY like US workers, so XOM will get cost and productivity benefits
