Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

RIF Volunteer

Can I volunteer to be RIF'd? Or would that be a bad idea?? I am considering leaving anyways and hear there is a big RIF coming up.

I made it loud and clear I had no confidence in the company and my VP. I was awarded the RIF. It worked out the way I planned. I walked into a new job the day after my sup pay ended.

Just wait to be RIF’d so you can get unemployment and the cr-ppy severance at least and health insurance coverage for a few months while you look for another job

@d5 my hope is to find one that isn’t publicly traded as well. No behemoth! I worked for Anthem before it went public. It was an amazing company back then.

I know of several people, myself included, who volunteered to be RIF'd. It worked out well for us, but I would think it depends on your manager's trustworthiness. On a side note, my life is significantly better now that I've left. I found another gig for a company that isn't publicly traded and that makes a ton of difference.

Be very very careful -- they make take it as you resigning, and then you wouldn't be eligible for unemployment or supplemental pay. And, the job market is terrible right now. I've been on the hunt since my RIF last year. Just bank as much of your paycheck as you can until you get on the RIF hit list.

@c0 sub pay is paid instead of a lump severance if your state allows sub pay. Basically the state unemployment pays you their portion and then ELV pays the rest of your regular pay. The length of sub pay is determined by years of service. You have to register for unemployment in your state and register for sub pay every week as well with ELV. You will get a check from state unemployment and another from ELV for the difference in pay which is payed on the ELV pay schedule.

@bq are people getting severance? Everything I’ve heard is supplemental unemployment. They are 2 different things. With supp unemployment the company is picking up what the state doesnt to make your salary whole. A lump sum severance payment is something else entirely.

Wanda, officially that is not possible. You can have that conversation of the record, but still it is risky. The reason is every time Someone is RIFFED Company is paying a huge amount for severance based on the experience. When your manager is on a mission to reduce headcount and she knows that she can get rid of one head without paying that severance, she will wait for you to go. She will also show this as a cost, saving to her boss and get some credit. So, if you want to leave just wait and watch. Also if you already have a job and you get riffed and then you get a job in another company you are entitled to get a lump sum of half of the severance money. So don’t take any action right now. Just wait and go with the flow.

Just tell your manager you are interested in the RIF benefit the company is offering. It's part of your benefits package
