Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

First RIF then VSP

Yes, it's true that RIF is due later this month. However, I heard that since Dan wants to make the org extremely lean, they are also planning for a VSP in 2Q'2026. Anyone heard about that?

Wouldn't that be interesting? Trim the fat once and then trim the folks sitting on the edge again?

Let's say you didn't get RIFed, would you take the next VSP?

@dx horse sh-t. VBG in Cary did in 2018. They reached out to the recently RIF’ed former members and offered them the enhanced package if they signed the updated paperwork with no-rehire condition.

@ec India works for a tenth the pay as Merican workers plus no insurance or payroll tax match, no retirement match. It is like getting someone to do professional job on janitor wage. Merican workers targeted, India growing. Merican workers will train Indian replacements before their last day.

@dx+1k917w4a3 I've worked at VZ for a very long time as well and yes they have as they do RIFs every friggin' month. Every employee who was RIFd between the 2024 VSP announcement date and the last off payroll date in March 2025 received the enhanced severance. To answer the question about another VSP though, I think the answer is fat chance. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they start cutting other things for remaining employees like merits, stock and sti.

@ec+1k917w4a3 International locations have stricter laws around layoffs in general and have never been offered a VSP.

shouldn't a RIF impact the India location in the same way as US? Does anyone know?

did they ever offer VSP to India employees in the past?

I have been at Vz 40 years…. Never in the history did they do a RIF and 9 months later do a VSP.

Based on my experience they are backing into headcount. Once they identify the EBITA goal and Stock Price it will be a surgical Targeted RIF!

VSP will always have a cap, I just hope the next time they do it the cap is at least 60 wks.

If they enhance the VSP to 3 weeks per year of service with no cap everyone above 25 years will accept.

VSP makes sense to avoid states pay the unemployment benefits which affects their budget and pi---s off the senators messes up with their numbers, etc. causing a political issue.

It is a smart strategy especially if you want to cut down the workforce within 6 months after a huge RIF...

I wonder if Dan will do it..

VSP is 3 weeks of pay for every year of service

Is the VSP only worthwhile if you have been at the company for a long time? If you’re new, with the severance package be very small?
