Generally curious... how is the skunk works team doing from anyone on the inside? Is it genuinely a contender?

Skunkworks and CE1 could be scrapped like U759. F150 Lightning production being halted is a red flag. U759 was much farther along in the development cycle too.
Genius app developers of Silicon Valley are trying to eliminate CAN as unnecessary, the comedy begins now,, these are some class A id--ts
Their work stink.
The skunks works team reports to take talent from around the company (while many are still doing another job besides) and get them to work together; first issue is that what they in fact do is take only pushy, energetic (read that as people who work in isolation best), people with few who actually have broad engineering experience (at least not doing automotive designs); yet they intend to develop through a combination of reuse, novel (not ever combined / used together before) technologies, and they hope to create a generic solution. It's such a re--rded goal given the people involved it is ludicrous. It may well make a single prototype or three; but no way it will ever be successfully mass produced.
@d0 Doesn't cognitive/emotional dissonance create a lot of trouble?
This is probably the most based comment you are going to hear. Couldn't have put it better myself. The amount of cognitive dissonance exhibited by the program leadership pushing this are nothing short of amazing. They want the impossible in 6-24 months, threaten people with performance reviews and PIP's when they don't deliver on said objectives. Everyone is trying to just push things forward to avoid attention from management and the culture continues to enforce that line of thinking. Say what you want about the paychecks and the bonuses (which can be substantial) - does it even make any difference when you are on the razor's edge of losing your job trying to meet impossible deadlines?
This is how the Chinese eat our lunch. Our executives don't have 10 or 50 year plans, their plans last a quarter or 2. Then it's a re-org. Wait until the very last second to cancel sinking ships even though it's apparent they'll never meet the deadlines (I'm looking at you FNV4). Layoff your brain trust that knows vendor quality issues and tendencies, as if it were them that were the reason for the failures. Make certain you chastise the precisely wrong people for the failures endured by the company and this is what you get. Lock the Chinese vehicles out of the market with protectionist trade policy?? Fine...but let's at least act like we are protecting something that's worth it, because right now it seems like it's just more of the same short term profit-taking mentality that's going to keep Ford scrambling. Smart, sometimes genius level, engineers that will either get fired, or be too overwhelmed to concentrate on what really matters will never save the C-suite from themselves.
It took Rivian four years as a startup, building on the strong foundations laid by experienced engineers and established systems from WV.
Now some Skunks want to create something in 6–24 months. This is an unrealistic ambition driven more by investor pressure and internal politics to re-create hopes than by sound engineering. We’re watching a system built through years of effort being strained and mismanaged, while the same people who benefited from it drain resources chasing “future potential.”
You don’t need a degree to see what’s happening just common sense.
They system allowed these id-ots to exists and destroy it from the straight angle of stupidity and deception.
It's hog wash team nothing more. Waste of money
Skung works is truly a smell skung nothing more. Cexxxx stack is worst. Bad design. Stack is worst specially one in power train and steering. This low cost ev is dead already . Useless people are on the team
Atleast this fnv4 have good quality system but this new c** system is worst in market.
