You don't speak for me. Money removes distractions. iI allows me to focus on doing the actual good work I care about without constantly worrying about the basics.

Exactly. And the majority of top talent understands this. Compensation is freedom. It’s not just about greed, it’s about autonomy, options, and dignity.

That may be true for startups. But this is not that kind of company. No real upside, no ownership, no authentic culture. Just legacy politics, vague promises, and stock that's flat at best.

Let’s not confuse the narrative. If you’re going to underpay people and strip away meaning and culture, don’t act surprised when talent walks or gets walked over trying to do good work..

@av here. We agree that many people care about money, but there are more ways to get money than salaries. In fact, salaries are very taxable. That's why many talented people work very hard in startups, with lower salaries and paid in shares. When the company gets big enough, those shares could be worth more than a CEO's salary and are less taxable.

However, many talented people care about a place where they feel great, where they are listened and that allows them to focus on their careers, even more that they care about money. I knew a couple of "good guys" that left Ford voluntarily a few years ago and took lower pay positions in smaller companies, but where they are thriving professionally. No dealing with LLx office games or Ford sh!tty processes and "leadership". They are happy there.

I am unhappy here, particularly after the reorgs and layoffs in my area in the last few years, but I make more $$$. Before any of you say I should find a better place, let me tell you that at my age, I am not looking for professional recognition, but for some $$$ for my retirement. The more $$$ I get, the less time I have to be in this rat race.

Food court is almost mandatory; by the time you walk 5-10 minutes to get out of the building, then do the 15 minute walk / shuttle to your car, then drive down an "under construction until heat death of the universe" Oakwood, grab some fast casual, then do the reverse, even a lousy sub sandwich is now 1.5-2 hours out of your day, in addition to the pointless commute on both ends of the day.

@av Interesting problems sure is right! Like imaginary ones they make up. Wasting resources on drama. If you think people don't care about high salaries, you're mistaken. Money talks. It cuts through bias and helps with impression management. Obviously money isn't everything, but money is a means to doing good things, even if its not being spent. Ford doesn't give RSU outside of insecure strategies that really emasculate you. They are the king of rug-pulls. The delusion of silicon valley here is real, especially when you think these cornballs are the culture that inspires what they aspire to have. Bunch of frauds, they aren't authentic, no real stories. They only have buildings and amenities as compensation for the abuse and treatment of employees inside those walls that the general public doesn't see."

Talent here can proudly say they’ve learned terms like “crab in the barrel mentality” and “tall poppy syndrome.” If they walk in seeing in color, they’ll end slowly start seeing in grayscale.

They get to learn what NOT TO DO. One of the best lessons you can learn at Ford is lying and how people can get away with it. No talent wants to work in a place where the state looks away from misconduct.

No real talent wants to work in a place that feels like a war-zone, where leadership would rather trap you with unethical tactics and keep you here for the baby rather than build a meaningful retention strategy. To keep you from leaving they'll accuse you in order for you to stay trying to vindicate yourself. Anything but amicable terms to stay to jointly build or exit due to differences.

Ford’s leadership is so insecure, they can’t hold a stable relationship with talent. They’ll preemptively cheat on talent, convinced that talent was going to leave them eventually anyway. They don't ask why the talent would try to leave them. To save face they try to pin the breakup on the talent, Lol.

But they won't give them a desk!!! What a circus! Believing the Silicon Valley hype and trying to emulate those software companies with buildings and amenities. They left out if they are going to serve avocado toast, as the sure way to attract talent... SMH.

What the Ford executives are missing, is that people flock to Silicon Valley not for the amenities, buildings and avocado toasts, not for the high salaries, but for fame and recognition. People can boast about working in Silicon Valley, but what can we boast about working at Ford? Number of recalls? People working in Silicon Valley get a windfall with the stock grants. Anybody fool enough to have Ford stock is poorer every day, since the stock is almost in free fall.

Since we are trying to emulate Silicon Valley so hard, are the Ford executives also planning to change the weather in Dearborn so it can be as sunny and nice as Silicon Valley? Or that would be the excuse when they fail to attract talent? LOL.
