Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

Why do mistakes lead to promotions here?

I’ve never before worked at a company where people who mess up majorly get rewarded. Why is this happening?

@ra people were getting put on PIPs for “wasting time” trying to find out why there was 700+ wafers sitting at 9980/stuck in IFAB for 6+ months at RFAB

@cs I saw multiple Mfg floor workers get chewed out for asking general questions about how SMS works, how the OI works, the floor management was very cliqueish. curiosity and independence are not viewed positively at TI

There is a lot of nepotism that goes on at TI. It wouldn't matter if they succeeded or failed just that they "gained experience and development".

From what I have seen, usually people who move up are given really hard tasks which have a low chance of success. Since they have accepted to do the task, that is enough for them to get promoted in the next cycle.

Succeeding is not part of it at all.

Saw an individual on a support team get promoted to a manager role despite questionable qualifications. Most of their team quit in the following 12 months. This person was then promoted to a director level role.

People who want to make improvements here get criticized for wanting things to be better. The people who maintain the status quo and say "yes" get moved up. Happens with management promotions. Happens on the tech ladder. Mind-boggling company culture we've cultivated.
