Thread regarding IBM layoffs

"So far in 2025, IBM has laid off around 9 000 workers."

Probably a lot more. They just rely on slopfarms that talk about one particular wave while ignoring all other data points.

@OP you're probably right a lot more then the 9k factoring the contractors. Unfortunately companies don't report them cause they aren't their employees

@cs It appears IBM is content to target approx 1 billion in savings per year. That equates to 10k out of NA/Northern Europe, or 30k out of India and other low cost countries. Mix or match however you want, but for the past 3 years the CFO has executed this plan. As AI is maturing, I expect India headcount (repetitive labor) to be impacted harder, BUT that will be offset via AI development also being done in India. NA and Northern European labor is not being back filled, but rather just being transferred to India. As such NA and Northern European labor will continue to shrink as time moves on

When you factor in (unjust) PIPs, RTO fallout, and other forced "voluntary" attrition (people quitting due to targeted lack of raises promotions) the real number is 2-3X that.

@OP

Individual, silent layoffs or small groups, they can't quantify them.

@OP one should expect Alvind and the Pipmunks to try and beat last year's numbers without touching Alvind's Sanctuary, India.
