Background check

So I am going thru a background check and am wondering what information is shared on things like ADP employment information to my new employer, the work number, etc. Will it show every job title I had at XOM? I omitted one lame role I had and replaced it with the previous role I had (2 years).

I know VOE only shows last job title held and start/end date, but will XOM share every job title I had on my background check? Thanks in advance!

XOM can only and will only provide your start date of employment and your end date of employment and your last position held. They will also provide salary information but only if you request in writing. Other than that they do not give details nor legally allowed to say anything else about you or your work at the company. Hire date, Departure date and position.

I was told the only thing we could do is verify you worked here...so I think you are overthinking this :)

@cr Nobody cares that the title was meaningless. They just check that it matches what you put in the job application.

Everyone knows most jobs are BS jobs.

Exxon hand out meaningless titles these days. Titles used to mean something but now it’s handed out like candy. There is an internal title that is tied to CL and to compensation. Externallly, the verification will show the internal title which is generic.

My advice is to be truthful about your skills and accomplishments. I worked with several people who got hired into Exxon with fabricated work history. There’s a few who left Exxon and got hired by not being truthful about what they did. (Basically took my job description….and claimed my work as theirs.). This eventually catches up with them because knowledgeable circles know and damage their credibility.

@OP Title and dates of employment.

Very rare for the third party to ask anything else or for the employer to say anything else. Nobody wants to get sued.
