Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

800 cuts in the Permian

Mostly at Midland, according to Bloomberg. Guess they weren't planning to relocate all those people after all. What's that as a percentage of the office?

Chevron is blaming the Texas Workforces website for the error… let’s see, what’s more believable? Chevron f’ed up the paperwork? Or the TXWF posted it incorrectly? I’ll put my money on CVX . You can absolutely count on them to sc--w up paperwork… the audio for streaming meetings… finding oil… buying a company.

All check the numbers on the TWC WARN page: https://www.twc.texas.gov/data-reports/warn-notice. You can download the xls and see what was actually reported.

Filed their paperwork incorrectly. HR couldn't organize a p*ss-up in a brewery.

The WARN notice Chevron filed with the state of Texas says
733 jobs cut in the Midland Deauville Boulevard office
7 jobs cut in the S. County Rd. office
and 44 jobs cut at 1788 office
This is not simply from a news article

This numbered reported in article was incorrect, the number is 200 not 800.

I cheered when CVX did their global cuts. And, I've cheered as CVX did their US cuts.

I am an equal opportunity dou--ebag. I would prefer you not imply bias.

More broadly, the cuts we've seen in US workforce are largely a result of increased efficiency in the space (and yes, offshoring). The cuts we've seen abroad (E.g. Angola) come down to the fact that locals don't really do very much (in most instances) and the concessions were cost oil saturated.

I have never heard anyone cheering when employees of Chevron or the federal government are laid off.
I don’t agree with you.

When CVX was cutting people and closing offices all over the world, the USA employees cheered. When DOGE decimated the government, USA employees cheered. Now they are getting a taste of what has happened to everyone else, and they're not cheering. Go figure.

I think I read a statistic one time that stated, MS has the lowest education level in all 50 states. Now I understand how education correlates to decision making, Okay I get it....

Where do you think the oil coming into "pasca" comes from... And why did Pasadena have to build more storage capacity? For product from the? Bueller? Bueller? Permian. That's right.

So if you think losing personnel in the Permian is a positive for the overall company, you don't understand how an integrated E&P company functions and why that integration model benefits the company as a whole. But yeah keep enjoying Mississippi.

Wow, that is honestly shocking. 733 people from MCBU in general would be high. Good luck, but that’s a surprisingly high number.

800 people in MCBU must be 70% to 80% of the staff in West Texas.

Move headquarters to Texas to take advantage of Texas tax laws that are there to help employ Texas. Immediately fire most of your staff and send the jobs to India.

How many total including Houston?

WARN act does not apply to contractors. They are contractors. This number is only full time employees.

Trying to understand where the 15-20% number everyone was told is going to apply. If that’s the number in a high stakes BU what are the others going be cut down to? 800 in the Permian , including contractors is pretty shocking.

Assuming field staff reports through that office for WARN purposes, that's still a deep deep deep cut. 30%? 40%? And those are layoffs not people getting moved to Houston. Sounds more like an office closure than a reduction!

From the company website:
“There are about 600 employees at Chevron’s Midland campus, putting their talent to work in all areas of our Texas-based Mid-Continent Business Unit”.
733 in the Texas WARN notice. Must also include contractors?

Texas WARN notice shows 733 to be cut from the Deauville office. Are they even that many people in that office?
