Are layoffs around the corner?

My gut tells me yes.

@cf If you can't call it what it is, maybe corporate life isn't for you.

We're at over 400 layoffs so far and EH has announced more are on the way. This is on track to be bigger than the disastrous round of layoffs under JD.

That's not doomsaying, that's just the reality of the situation.

@cf+1jyy128bd ~400 people two weeks ago is not just a person here or there. And some of them made zero sense, leaving behind some peeps in my group who don't even do work and haven't in over a year.

Hot. Mess.

Congrats, you nailed the dictionary definition — gold star. Yes, technically it’s a layoff, but it’s a handful of roles, not some doomsday purge. The reason I don’t call it a layoff is because people hear that word and panic — they link it to big cuts, instability, and fear for their own jobs, even when it’s minor. We’re trimming what doesn’t make sense and adding what does. It’s called running a business, not an apocalypse. If that’s too upsetting, maybe corporate life isn’t for you.

@ak A layoff is literally "a discharge of a worker or workers because of economic conditions or shortage of work." What word would you use instead, lol?

The advice to "keep doing great work" is also awful. Do what you need to to meet your job requirements and network like he-l to be ready when the shoe drops because it will drop.

I know top performers who got the boot across various rounds and bottom feeders that are still collecting paychecks. Performance has nothing to do with it.

I wouldn’t use the word layoffs to describe what’s happening. He’s continuing to restructure his ‘flying formation,’ and as it takes shape, they’ll assess what roles or levels are needed and which aren’t. Some positions may go away, and new ones may be created. It’s an ongoing process that happens every year, often in small ways most people don’t even notice.

The best thing you can do is stay positive and keep doing great work. None of us can predict the future, so focus on what you can control and be ready to adapt if needed

This is just the freelance writers trying to get leads to do articles with “Nike sources”. Don’t fall for it.

when I was in the company in mid 90s, there was saying among the staff "have your plan B". "plan B" was a new phrase back then. Now i think it is more like plan c and plan D
