Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

I ALMOST HIT THE EOI BUTTON

AND THAT'S BECAUSE IS THE EASIEST TO FIND!
L O L
Why do we need a "bundle"?
Why there are duplicate job names?
Why don't we have a way to sort by Job ID and not just move back and forth between positions?
How do we know we apply for the position we feel qualified?
So many questions....

Software engineer here. I’ve been around long enough to not make assumptions about what goes behind a given app on any platform.

I also know we have less than 10 SEs at Chevron who could even get an Azure resource group created, SQL DB configured and a React web app up and running in less than a month, despite what our SE chapter leadership might claim.

This is what we deserve for lying to ourselves about our technical OC.

I nearly hit the EOI button because this place is a raging dumpster fire.

The stupid homegrown tool could've been avoided if they'd just used Workday recruiting to do this. I mean, how different is this activity from the usual PDCs where Workday couldn't work? They could have used hiring restrictions to keep the applicant pool to only those who should be apply.

Right now some McKinsey consultant is yelling at some E&J “developer” to “do the needful” and fix it in IST hours so he can get his bonus for the sla-ghter.

Software engineer here.

This app should take no more than a week to implement using a modern web framework like React + node.js, or Django. It’s about as simple as it gets. Of course, Chevron would over complicate it with DAST and SAST scans, an entry in CMDB, Ansible, and a w Architecture, but it would still be trivial. And it would work well and be easy to use.

I bet far more than a week was spent trying to make this festering wound of an application do what it is supposed to do, whilst some poor developer tries to work around all of PowerApps deficiencies and idiosyncrasies, all under the guise of trying to be faster. And the result is fetid mess that exemplifies how the company is run.

This Power App is the prime example of why experienced architecture, data scientists, and software engineers are needed. They also need to be company folks vs. contractors who just work based on milestone dates vs. functionality & user adoption.
