Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The new World Headquarters is a giant FU to our product development engineering teams

I was there, nearly 10 years ago, when they announced the campus redesign. All of the buildings were outdated and in disrepair. Ford announced a major campus design for it's product development campus: new parking buildings, new buildings, and renovations for every existing building.

Work began, everyone was excited. Then unexpectedly, Billy Ford announces that he had Ford buy a Train Station (ironic). Questions began as to what was going to happen with the campus redesign. We were assured it would still continue and it did; albeit scaled down. Instead of tearing down all of PDC, only some of it would be torn down and instead of a complete campus redesign only one new building (beside car parking lot) would be built on the campus.

Everyone waited patiently for the new PDC building to be built. And that's what we were calling it, the 'new PDC'. Then only a couple of weeks before the building was set to open up. Ford leadership decided that they liked the new building too much to allow it to be just another engineering building and that it would be their new headquarters.

What was wrong with the old World Headquarters? Nothing.

Ask yourself, why didn't they announced that it was going to be the new World Headquarters years ago when the construction first broke ground? Why wait until weeks before opening to announce that it will be the new headquarters?

FU product development, that's why.

Have fun remaining in PDC where the air conditioning doesn't always work. Shout-out to the IT support teams that had to work out of that Atrium. Hopefully they'll let you move into the new building and you won't be subjected to that humid stale air all day.

@1jn That's my biggest gripe too, there's no attention to what actually makes this place run anymore, just authoritarian mandates and process. It's not about the people or the actual vehicle anymore.

Simply put.....

The leadership of this company thinks they are more important than the people who are designing and building the products that they sell.

That should tell you everything about this company the leadership the owner especially and why they all need to be put out to pasture.

It's beyond past time to make that happen

I for one am shocked that the executive team has not made the future of mobility - MCS headquarters. It's immensely short sighted, as Model e is the future. Some of the executive team (like Dougie) love downtown - it is the center of the automotive world after all, they surely do enjoy the cultural richness of the city. I head that Doug will be at the DIA painting Pink Bunnies at the DIA this Friday a shining example of mixed media talent!

I made the mistake and called it “ the hub “. Now my PL is on my case for everything I do.

While I would have preferred the new building debuted this week to have become the HQ for Model e, I can see the rationale why corporate leadership preferred the new facility to become the headquarters for the entire company.

I've moved on from all this RTO stuff and I'm tired of beating around the bush. I don't like it, but I'm going to do my best with it, there are things more important than commuting everyday. We didn't deserve what happened here, and we all know it. I'm open to moving on, I'm not looking for anything from this place anymore, just peace and the ability to move forward a bit. If anyone else feels the same way - I'm open to the conversation.

@jr+1ka7qefbn to a marketing CEO, engineers are just costs to be reduced so they can put more money toward their brilliant marketing schemes. engineers get nicked for spending an extra 25 cents on a part to make it more robust. marketing: should we make the rebate $2000, or $4000? :)

Is the new building under recall yet? Seriously how does anyone take this leadership team, the ownership, and especially this CEO seriously. Go cash another $24M check while spouting esoteric nonsense about how concerned you are with the future of the working folks. Are his 15 minutes up yet?

Our buildings were outdated, it didn't matter much to me. Some people can be really petty about things in general, and you have to wonder if they just have issues. I wish people were more up front about things, when everyone puts on a fake persona and then lets these kind of things bubble up over time it's really not great for morale.

Agree. The first time I ever heard of that building being a new WHQ was at the Townhall they announced it. Pretty sh---y move to take it for themselves at the last minute. But what did you expect from Farley? He hates engineering, so it makes sense. Remember when he said an ICE engineer couldn’t do EV work, projected we would build 600k EVs in 2023, after firing all the ICE and TSs? LMAO

The building is beautiful! It’s a wonderful addition to the Ford Land Portfolio. So nice that they didn’t let the engineers use it. Using it as the new World Headquarters is a much better use for it. The best thing would be to move as many engineers as possible to the train station.

@ep
From the dedication speech by Hackett when Ford first purchased the Michigan Central Station:
"Think of this as a Knowledge Cathedral.
It's a place where new ideas are birthed."

Yeah, that worked out. . .

What was the purpose of spending nearly $1B on the train station? I'm still missing the point, does anyone actually use it? Is it the Silicon Valley of Downtown Detroit and a tech hub? Sounds like another highway or bridge to nowhere project?

Glass House is the nicest and most well maintained building besides the RIC. It’s an iconic landmark. Now what! A park and giant “FORD” logo LED billboard to let you know you are in Ford country? Billy has lost his damn mind. This goes with the train station and tanking ICE development for BEV.

Rightly said in no other company would executives spend so much money on vanity projects when there isn't even enough seating for the workers who do the actual work. This company is sinking fast because the leadership is just living in lala land. So many people leaving in droves.

Ya, right. Where did this guy come from?? Send him back there.
