Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why bother trying?

We've reached the point where all the promotions go to buddies, benefits shrink yearly, and job security’s turned into a joke. My manager literally said a while ago that quiet quitting is the new normal. So now I do my 9-5 and log off. Not my fault they ki-led ambition.

With just the right amount of ambition, a firm belief in your own fabrications, and a habit of stealing credit where it’s due, you don’t need a degree or results. Just uplift the bullies, serve yourself first, and carry that sense of entitlement proudly. That’ll take you the rest of the way to a seat in the LT!

Just corporate 101 survival if you are mid to late career. All large companies are like this every industry. Best thing to do is just coast and cash the checks and focus on the parts of life that matter. Just like high school if you are not in the clique with the cool kids its game over nothing you can do about it. I stopped giving a damn long time ago and the stress level has gone way down. Now if you got out of control with spending your money and are trapped in a highly leveraged financial position life su-ks for you but you dug that hole all on your own trying to keep up with the jones and some fictional career plan. New normal is a string of jobs with fancy title.

After years of being a top performer, they will now get the absolute minimum. For the first time I keep my mouth closed when I see excellent opportunities all around me to save the company money. I just do what they ask me to do.

@ce, pray tell, when is the next reorg?

Our manager told us the year of the next reorg so many are now sitting still waiting for the dollars.

My career is essentially dead at Chevron after this re-org. I came from another company and was lured in by the promise of opportunity. What I’ve found is that unless you were a blue blood chevron, or brought on already at a high PSG, you will not move up in this company. Your previous experience, even if it was at a level far beyond what you do in Chevron, absolutely doesn’t matter. I wish I’d never touched this Company and will get out as soon as I find a position. For those of you in 2nd wave….take another job if it comes your way.

Start your own company and put your energy toward the future while getting benefits from Uncle C!

It’s pretty easy to get by like this. My only fear was getting to a place where I needed to leave and not having done real work in years so I decided to go ahead and leave to challenge myself more and grow.

Amen. There are consequences for ELT's actions even if they aren't accountable
