Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Phase 2 selection just like Phase 1 for us

I am sorry for all of you that have to endure this process, that it looks as though there will also be no transparency, and that the company only cares about reducing US headcount t. Just like it was for us in Phase 1. Org charts will not be revealed so don’t ask. Good people will be lost and executives don’t care. This is all about numbers. Chevron Way is dead, this place is just a job no more careers. It’s about the dividend and that’s it.

Sadly I agree with a poster saying “The Chevron Way” is dead. I agree for the most part. There are pockets of it around, good people but not enough to overcome the ELT who has steered us into bad decisions over the years. I have 15+ years and mid 20’s PSG. I have seen over the years the change from people to just profits and a coldness. It’s been enlightening and I will carry and adjust this mentality and my feeling towards the company as well: this is a business, I am an employee, that’s it. Means to an end.

@cd, this is spot on. Experienced individuals who mentored and practiced the old Chevron Way were left standing, while individuals who "played the game" and wouldn't think twice of throwing anyone under the bus to get ahead got positions they were not qualified for. What happened to the culture? Are they looking for direct & decisive at the expense of everything else?

Yes, in addition to what the op said, don’t expect any transparency- values they’ve been pushing. Those only apply to the employees among themselves.
You’ll have endless townhalls that don’t provide any information. Different groups will do things differently.
HR will be the watchdog so be careful what you say. Keep your messages on your personal phones. Everyone will be scrambling to advocate for themselves. Some managers will help but others are more concerned about themselves.
You’ll have to network and advocate for yourself. No one else to do it for you.
Attend HR office hours. Prep for the worst and hope for the best. Those left standing don’t truly expect it. I saw a post that said 99% are in scope - the cuts are about the job not the person. They said it more eloquently. I saw people who mentored people that were kept, but they were left standing. Wrong place, wrong time. That person has excellent hard and soft skills. Be prepared to be severed. The results will be heartbreaking and in many cases, make no sense. The people who will say the cuts weren’t that bad are the ones who weren’t cut. You will see how people really are by how they behave. Don’t count on them being gone.

Hopefully, they’ll have learned along the way but I wouldn’t count on it.

At least the big wigs are now using the word OE focus and telling us to have OE Moments again…too little too late!

Anyone else notice MW distancing himself with that interview recently- he told staff we were headed in the wrong direction in regards to Safety?!

@OP Chevron Way? What’s that? Haven’t heard that mentioned in about 2 years.

I never thought I cared about The Chevron Way. But it’s clear to me now that The Chevron Way was a window into something bigger. A “people over profits” mentality. A concern for how we treat others and how we take care of ourselves. I don’t remember “1st Quartile” being mentioned once in The Chevron Way. And yet, we were a successful oil company. Go figure. I’m all for changing with the times, but not at the expense of the identity I was so proud of for over 20 years.
