Confused about severance payout

Please be kind I feel d-mb for not quite understanding this. So Warn act gives me 13 weeks till Jan 30th but where does severance come into play? Does it start right after the 30th? If it’s 2 weeks for every year I should be getting 8 weeks. And the there is this whole business with signing the agreement in a “timely manner” and they will give an additional weeks pay?! The email from HR with all the docs was a bit confusing

@cg It should be... fight for it, if it's not included... there is precedence for this.

@cg No, your severance is based solely on the time you were employed by Paramount directly.

@a2 9 years, but they only counted 8.
2 weeks per year 16 weeks, which includes the 13 weeks of WARN. WARN is not added on top.
13 weeks WARN
3 weeks Severance
16 total.

@a2 if you signed a contract you get the remainder, otherwise it is generally 2wks per year for a max of 1yrs but WARN can affect that both positively and negatively. There are other factors though, office location is a big one.

WARN is by percentage of your Office. Everyone should always make sure it is accurate.
I dont know why it isnt that ' i am remote at home and 100% of the employees here got let go' or 'i work remote and 80% or remote workers got let go' but it is.

For those of us who were laid off/let go/kicked to the curb/booted/given the ax - there is an FAQ document which outlines how WARN works.

Is your severance paid out at once or are you essentially getting paid like normal for the severance period?

Remote workers get the short end of the stick w/ no WARN pay

For those who started as PBE and were converted to staff without interruption of service, was your time as PBE factored into your severance?

@cc Agree with this. I was at SVP level, hired a lawyer and got nothing extra. Lawyer has been doing this for 30+ years and has worked with others at Paramount. Said Paramount is one of the top two worst companies ever worked with - CitiBank was the other one. Advised that I say NOTHING about a new job. Don't waste your money on a lawyer because they will not budge and don't post anything about a new job until your severance runs out.

@cb NO, keep your mouth shut and don’t post on LinkedIn until after your severance is over!

@c4 that makes sense thank you for explaining! And then if you receive a job before the end of the severance you lose it right?

Hi,
The paperwork states we're on the payroll until 1/30/2026. That covers the 90 days/13 weeks for the WARN notice here in NY.

I've been here just shy of 24 years so my severance is 46 weeks. The 90 days/13 weeks counts towards the 46. After 1/30/2026, the remaining 33 weeks of my severance kicks in.

This will happen to anyone who has over 13 weeks of severance coming to them.

Anyone with less severance, you're covered by the 90 days and then done.

This is how it was explained to my colleague and me.

@ad that’s frustrating. Maybe if you don’t get the email by tomorrow AM, reach out to AskHR… sorry to hear that

@a9 sorry forgot to mention that yeah I believe 13 weeks is NY (90 days). CA would be 60 days. The “one sheet” attachment in the email packet from HR should include a personalized breakdown.

@a6 does the 13 week warn notice apply to California or just New York?

So I understand your confusion because I was too. And you can always email AskHR they’re pretty prompt with answers.

But this is how I understand it: if you’re not VP/above then yes technically severance is 2 weeks for every full year. But the 13 weeks for WARN factor into it, they don’t count as an addition. So you take your amt of years at the company x2 and subtract the 13 weeks from that. If you’re in the negatives, that might be the maximum unless you’re a director/senior director. They get a minimum of 16 weeks severance. But again: the 13 weeks factor into that, so at minimum I think they get 3 extra weeks.

For those who were affected, if you don’t mind sharing, could you mention how many years you were with the company and what severance you received? Just trying to understand better.
