Severance negotiations

Is negotiating the severance by yourself working or do you have to have an attorney for them to take it serious? We were only given a couple days to sign the document so have to act fast.

I did the same a few months ago during the last layoffs and won everything you mentioned except my LTIP. I didn't think to ask for that. I blew it. I did get three years worth of bonuses and a substantial pay out to not go to court but not my LTIP bonus. I received what was vested but didn't go after what was not. I guess that was my fault for not asking . I owe it all to my attorney. I recommend that you follow our lead. More so the prior poster's lead because I forgot the LTIP bonus. UGH!

I can't give my name or department or name as part of my settlement but my attorney just negotiated more than triple what I wanted. I was skeptical but they did not want this going to court and settled. I also kept my bonuses for a couple of years and my un-vested amounts. Fight it.

Don't do it yourseld. Get an attorney They will pay more and cover his or her costs as part of the settlement

They won't pull the offer. They didn't me when I told them I needed another 2 weeks. I too devided to sue and not sign.

Will CDW pull the offer back if I ask for a little bit more? One lawyer said it looked ok to sign as is*. I don’t like it though but I’m worried they will play dirty and not give me anything.
*and waiting to get another attorney opinion in the interim

I’m shocked no one has contacted the EEOC because there is clear age discrimination in play with the layoffs.

For those of us still here. Prepare now! Prepare now. Gather your customers contacts and pricing . Mind your next steps. Start looking for a different employment now, even if you are a top performer. If your commission is too high, they will roll the dice and you will be gone. Plan now! If you are close to one of your higher ups or an exec and have sacrificed everything for the company, think again. JD was a shining example of that. The guy made Canada profitable and then he went to England as they had asked and made the difficult moves they wanted him to make and then they asked him to leave in place of a better friend. We miss you JD!

The "deadline" is arbitrary and a pressure tactic.
Consult an employment letter and take the time you need.

Even Leahy was smart enough to get an attorney for her divorce. How do you think she was able to take her husband's name off her home at the 30 tide watch address in newport beach, CA. That was millions of dollars just stripped from him because she had a better attorney

Get an attorney! You will be happy you did. I am not allowed to share how it worked for me but trust me, you will get more than you think. I will only say I am retired now.

Just sign it, and move on with your life.
Don't tempt fate.
They can always recind the severance offer entirely, then what will you do?

Being laid off is stressful enough, in and of itself.
Why get bogged down with the added stress, hassle, time-su-k and cost of dealing with a lawyer to argue for more, with people who've already made their decision to give you the boot?
Be glad that you're being offered severance at all, graciously take their money, and just move on down the road.
