Office Visits - Badging in and out

I am supposed to go to office once a week. I mostly badge in and out. What are you guys doing? I see so many people actually working from the office. I could never imagine spending more than 10 minutes there.

I dont have my team here at this pulse point, everyone is spreadout but my manager asked me to be at the office at least for 4/5 hours per week. I understand the risk so i stay cautious, you never know what would be the next reason to rif you

based on this comment and this comment alone I hate your guts and can see why your coworkers don't want to join you on your awful suggestion. Do us all a favor and tape your mouth shut.

I have made it my goal to do 1 thing and 1 thing only. Be the loudest most obnoxious guy in the office to the point they will question their plan to rto entirely.

Step 1 : Bought the LOUDEST most agitating mechanical keyboard. I type 120 words per minute and make sure to make mistakes

step 2: harness the power of ADHD by shaking my legs uncontrollablly

step 3: headphones with NO noise canceling. Hey everyone, come listen to this podcast with me!!!

step 4: microwave Indian food or fish. Office isn't very big, do them all a favor and trap them in with the smell of death.

step 5: Headset? Did you provide me with a headset? No, then I'll be taking my calls on speaker. I'm also claustrophobic so I will NOT be using that designated meeting coffin.

step 6: buy portable router and plug into ethernet port of empty room.... Now I can be in the office whenever I want. If only I could beat that badge system.....Maybe a dolphin flipper zero.

step 7: attach a gang of noisy objects to your backpack or body. When you walk it will sound like Maracas.

step 8: Deposit that Indian food in the toilet and then stuff it with cheap paper towels and flush it on your way home.

with my helpful tips its absolutely certain you will annoy the entire building and drive rent prices down. Good luck and see you at the office!

HCA did this. Basically monitor the length of your sh-t breaks and lunch breaks.

Do we know which offices reducecd office space? Could be a RIF indicator as well.

I know of many companies that require badging out. They just put badge reader on exits and door unlocks when you swipe badge. There are emergency exits in case of fire. Maybe doors automatically unlock when fire alarm is triggered. But saying this is illegal due to fire codes makes no sense when I know of so many companies requiring badge outs

Can confirm that my local office space was cut in half. I just hope they don’t get rid of it completely. They are working out the details regarding amenities. Will be interesting to see what they figure out about the bathrooms. Currently we are left with two single rooms for 140 desks.

It's been a few years since I've had any work to do. I ask my manager for a project every two weeks at our 1:1 and my manager tells me work is coming. Going to the office is even a bigger waste of time since I do not know anyone and I have no work.

I used to go in once a week and work a half day in the office, the other half at home. I'd take my lunch while i was in the office. Then I was Rif'd off in November.

I’m confused by all this. I have been told by directors and staff vps that there is no minimum time.

How will they force you to badge out? By locking the doors? It’s against the fire code in every state.

@dp+1jjb9a489 So true- RTO does remind me how little work so many people do - I swear to god it's people sitting and talking all day long I've learned to book a desk away from an aisle as much as possible - I had a woman at my desk for 45 minutes it was crazy! Do people have mouse movers in the office? No one is at their desks for any length of time!

Yep. I think this was posted by HR. Trying to get people to reveal. It’s written so oddly.

I go in once a week, and I legitimately stay all day. I go to so many Teams meetings back to back that it's pretty easy to zone out and not worry or think about where I am. That said, I'm a pretty obvious example of why RTO is pointless. I have zero teammates in my office.

What I DO have is half a dozen people who seem to have nothing better to do but chit chat with me, approaching and yapping even when I'm very obviously on a call. I have stopped hiding it, I just let these interruptions happen on camera so others can see how obnoxious it is when I'm not at home.

@cw I was thinking the same thing. Could be a post by an HR rep trying to figure out how many people aren't following the badge swipe rules set by their management. In my case, I follow the rules, but it is a complete waste of time and work productivity. I have a long commute and there is typically less than a dozen people in the office when I go, and I don't work with any of them. Most people have an angry look on their faces because they don't want to be there either, so I just keep to myself.

This sounds like a fishing question so that “they” can determine what steps to take next… like badging out.

They can also track network connections while in the office.

You are not required to badge out. However, badging in and leaving immediately is against the policy - it has been updated and specifically says now this is not acceptable so I would be very careful. I usually stay a couple of hours and leave at lunchtime

Maybe you should record your manager saying it's okay to swipe in and go home. He-l, I'd record every conversation with anyone above my position.

The managers who tell their folks to badge in and leave are in the wrong. The manager level has no authority to say that. Again, nothing may have happened to you negatively yet, but dont be surprised if one day you are put on corrective action/terminated for swiping and immediately leaving. Your manager will deny that they told you it was okay.

Through senior leader discussions, the “you’re good” benchmark has been at least half a day so at least 4 hours counts as a full day.

I’ll say it again, your mileage may vary but you are playing with fire swiping in and then leaving. Regardless of if your manager said it’s ok.

The sad part is some managers are telling their directs to just badge in and leave. If your manager is telling you this is ok, what are you suppose to do?

I’ll start off by saying I am in the same boat as many. Going in once per week with no one from my org (I have 200 associates total who roll up to me) that is assigned to my pulsepoint.

The hybrid req is beyond d-mb especially when there is no possibility for collaboration.

That said, I caution folks swiping in, staying a short time and leaving. You may have had no issue doing that for now, but it can be measured how long you were connected to the network while at the office.

I try to schedule in-person meetings with colleagues who work locally, since we have to office-in anyway, but no one wants to meet in person. They'd rather meet on Teams.

I also don’t work with anyone in my office. They keep pushing the whole “collaboration” thing but the typical leaders just don’t get that for some of us it makes no sense. I stay for a few hours and leave. I really hope they don’t start mandating more days or specific amount of hours. I foresee them doing this if they want to get people to quit, then as a tool to fire people to get out of paying sub pay yo save money on riffing.

why not deliberately sit next to a bunch of loud talking people and go on a meeting and repeatedly say "I can't hear you its really loud in here. " No way would I badge in then out - easy way to get termed - not your fault you cannot hear.

I drive far enough that badging in and out doesn't make sense, I stay for a few hours then leave. I do not work with a soul in my state let alone my office and the office is pretty crowded and loud with people on teams meetings. Nothing gets done there, I try to do more mindless tasks while I'm in the office like large teams meetings so I can just keep my headphone on...

Clocking in & out tracking will be piloted in couple of pulse points . Be careful and make sure you don’t come out way too early . With current situation,, all they need is a reason to fire you!

I shifted away from badging in and out after I got riffed because I wasn’t sure if that played a part in it. My manager at the time said just swipe and leave. I got rehired so now I go in and stay for 2-4 hours. Every once in awhile I will badge in and out but don’t make it a habit. I figure they could track where you logged in at via your computer, probably not going that far yet but who knows.

It takes 40 minutes to get to the office so I won’t badge in and then leave. I spend maybe 2 hours there once a week. I try to leave before the meetings start because to participate in a meeting in that nearly empty space, everyone would hear. I also can’t get my headset to work. Office is in a heavy retail area, so traffic gets really bad once stores start opening. No one there to collaborate with. Ice machine is awesome.

Someone in our office badge in and out within 5 mins (got a coffee) and the camera caught them. They were terminated.

It takes me 40 minutes to get to the office, there’s a half a dozen Carelon folks and fewer Elevance. There’s literally nobody to collaborate with. I stay for about an hour and a half or two hours max. I go in a room and close the door and do a few emails. My fear is that they are going to require us to start badging out so they can measure our time And add a second day or third day to our ridiculous requirement.
