Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

FROM the FIELD

Meetings are being held (in person and Zoom) to encourage and push branch offices to use co-pilot.

Whereas the HO witnessed this type of hype in their "new system processes," which later showed itself as a RIF, so too will the field. It may take a couple of years, but its coming.

NEW employee slogan: "Participate in your own demise at EJ" ....instead of:
"Together We Serve" which really means "together we serve ---> the ELT."

@pc that was such a Lucille Bluth moment. "It's one banana Michael, what could it cost $10?"

@p3 Lol. The same Suzan who said in 2023: “I understand inflation is hard on people! I saw that a half gallon of milk was $13!!”

Suzan where are you getting your milk, Saks Fifth?

The best part of these sessions are having it sponsored by Suzan who has the IQ of a dry roasted peanut…

Not to mention, Copilot as an AI tool is useless and inferior. Even Microsoft has abandoned the idea that will compete with Gemini, Claude or ChatGPT.

The tone of this session is so strange. I was hoping for examples of more advanced uses of copilot. Instead it's just a bunch of people admitting that they struggle with critical thinking and executive functions so they ask copilot to do it for them...and begging everyone to do the same.

If Penny was given the chance to reduce the firm to 1,000 people and make more money, we know what she would do. Money is her god.

@gj it 100% will. So, EDJ has decided that the business model is not the high priority long term risk that needs to be addessed. No, they have decided to target home office staff and ditch the "main street" investors.

I’ve been using AI to develop my financial plan and get input on portfolio allocation etc. it has been very good. Wouldn’t it disrupt EDJ business model?

@ca I’ve got nothing against efficiency but I came here 5 years ago to work in digital. I came with experience building digital products. Whether it’s Agile or AI, the firm’s focus on how work gets done instead of what we are doing is unbelievably boring. I’ve worked in shops undergoing Agile transformation before and EDJ can’t see the forest for the trees. Tbh there’s always some new flavor of the month methodology that will be the answer to all of corporate America’s problems. It was Six Sigma for a while, then Agile, now it’s AI. Typically you move forward with your work making changes to comply with the new methodology. The changes that fix something take hold while the rest gradually falls by the wayside. And then the next thing comes along. I’ve taken good things from every method. At their core, all of them have good ideas. But they aren’t an end in themselves. They only exist to advance the goal of the work. As long as I’m able to continue to do good work, I’ll go along with whatever they want. At EDJ, we never seem to get to the work because they trip over every process change. I’m so tired of having discussions about how to run Agile ceremonies and if I used AI to write a story.

@ca the only echo chamber at EDJ right now is the GP's above directors and ELT that have surrounded penny. Talk about tone deaf and failing to read the room.

Or, I’m level headed and believe that we are being encouraged to use AI to be more efficient and better at our jobs. But you’ll just continue to push the narrative that anyone who doesn’t complain on this site is a “bootlicker.” Enjoy your echo chamber!

@bs dummy. The other big companies are doing the same thing and have told everyone that it is to get a "road map" for what people do at their jobs so the bots can pick up and learn as much as possible. You're either an ELT clown, or another koolaid drinking bootlicker who doesn't think they
will be canned by "leadership".

@bs it’s being pushing in the HO as well… why else would the company want to use AI in the course of every persons workday?

It’s so ELT can understand what every person is using AI for in order to understand what roles can be eliminated and automated with AI.

Fool them all… use AI every day to tell you a joke or do something unrelated to your role.
