Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Does ford really need H1Bs ?

Been in Business role for a while now, honestly ford is paying more on H1Bs than a local. If you add immigration, attorney charges $$ goes to moon.not sure why we need H1Bs for these roles which can be filled with just an associate degree#H1B#ford

@cs You can be a rational optimist until the cows come home, but if you have been burned time after time, it would behoove you to pay attention to trends. I have not come across a single potential Mark Zuckerberg or Reid Hoffman... not even close. You can live in your pie in the sky world and I will live in the real world because I have deadlines and budgets to meet.

I stand by my statement.

@ab There are plenty of older GenXers around the Detroit area that are stuck here (mostly because their spouse has a decent job) who have been shut out of the workforce because they are the wrong race, gender, nationality, or their s-xual orientation is considered undesirable.

Ford refuses to consider them.

@OP Perhaps it’s “in-group preference” on the part of the hiring manager.

I mean, why hire a white guy?

I rather hire an American kid than hire someone who brings over a boatload of relatives who don’t work and stealing our social benefits. After getting green cards, they act worse than American kids!

Who would you rather hire:

  1. H1B who is happy to have a job, works long hours for less pay and doesnt complain too much
    or
  2. American kid who is addicted to their phone, wants all sorts of special treatment, complains ad-nauseum, wants to be CEO in 5 years and is highly sensitive

Some of the kids that I have interviewed disqualified themselves because they would have been very high maintenance.

I'm great with that! What steps are you taking to bring justice down upon the wrongdoers?

Posting here doesn't count.

Sounds like real crimes may have been committed, taking it all at face value.

Random coworkers on a message boards are not the audience for "dignity. Support. Unity. Understanding."

I suggest anyone looking for those, hire a good lawyer and bring this house of cards toppling down. If you can, you will own this state.

No. We blackball people here to hire H1Bs saying we can't find the talent locally so we can abuse them without them being able to stand up for themselves.. It is not a good strategy because evidently, we can abuse here and get away with it. There are people that can't stand up for themselves locally, that are also talented. So we should consider just abusing our talent locally and cut out the middle-man attorney fees. Don't worry about lawyer fees should they represent themselves... we have experience in suppression.

@c9 Ford is so big that they can human traffic talent in Michigan and Lansing will either actively look away destroying individual lives or participate in the marginalization on the road to seeking justice. Who do you trust when the justice system seems rigged in itself. This is why I implore everyone here to please be mindful and not make jokes or snarky comments to people with real stories that are truly struggling. Yes, victims are adults... but that does not mean the fate is in their hands. Sometimes all they have left is that voice that same voice they had in the beginning. It's not cool to victim blame. Giving advice, sometimes, may not be the best thing either. What they need is their dignity. Support. Unity. Understanding. If their voice stands with others, then there is a reason for others to be incentivized to doing the right thing. Alienating younger talent sounds funny.. but real people hurt. Real people read those comments..

@c2 "how do you think those ford vehicles are still coming out with new features and who do you think is working over weekends to fix those defects and unblock manufacturing?"

People like me. Worked weekends, long nights, denied fcg friday perks (unless you called working late for a year straight a perk). Lied to during the hiring process. Lied to about promotions. Lied to about reclassification. Rotation was sabotaged. Couldn't leave Model e, requested to GTFO within 6 months of starting here out of undergrad and into a new department. Made intellectual property around the same time they claimed I was disgruntled in an official report that was falsified to pattern behavior that was completely untrue, nothing was going on. Had my work outside of IP mis-attributed to other people, did the jobs of multiple people. Lied to over and over again and each time I caught them, their lie got bigger and that recruited more adults in on the lie. Ended up being human trafficked into forced labor. Stuck in the same rotation (Model e CVS) for 1.7 YEARS. HELD HOSTAGE 1.4 YEARS IN (received veiled threat after reporting unethical wrong doing up the chain with full evidence). Local agency didn't help me get my dignity back. Showed me what real corruption means. I was denied days off, religious holidays, family events on weekends and also family dinner parties on fridays etc. I was denied education that my friends were granted, I was still in my first rotation by the time friends were in their third and also wrapping up their MBAs. Two advisors manipulated me, first one kept me 'going' and to hold patience while I lost the prime neurodevelopment years out of university. I was stuck in a position i couldn't leave when I finally woke up around new years when they sabotaged my rotation to keep me under false pretenses, originally they tried to bribe me with extra money instead of going to GDIA. My position was supposed to be HTHD originally, HRBP Model e herself said I started in the wrong classification. Promotions were lies, they processed my promotion in 2023 but it was to take effect 2024 of April Fools Day. They scammed my and stole my intellect and laughed about it. I faced workplace mobbing for the first time ever. I never even faced bullying in school. This was the worst thing that could ever happen to my brain. My second advisor they switched around new years extracted vulnerabilities and planted thoughts strategically, again I was naive. Nobody protected or advocated for me. Nobody said this is wrong. Nobody stopped. Everybody mobbed against me because I was invisible to those that could help. No voice.

Because someone needs to do the real work while others are busy licking boot and get promoter to only spread toxic env in office, how do you think those ford vehicles are still coming out with new features and who do you think is working over weekends to fix those defects and unblock manufacturing?

@ab

In other words, they are being exploited in exchange for being sponsored. Seems pretty simple. I don't see how anyone determines this as a good thing. Bad for them because they are being leveraged in a way that essentially exploits them, bad for US workers because they'll do almost anything to stay for less pay and also in some cases get to bring all their family with them. This makes it even more catastrophic for them if they don't meet any overbearing demands that are put on them.

That is a myth. You're parroting the h1b propaganda. There are plenty of people in Michigan who would love to work for Ford but unfortunately Ford leadership isn't rationale thinking. They are lead to believe by the h1b lobby that these h1bs are the holy grail of tech when they really aren't and honestly have less skills than an American with some experience graduating with an associate degree. It's about time Americans start asking tougher questions.

The H-1B that hire them say yes.
All the people forced to leave Michigan after losing their job at Ford or being turned down for jobs by H-1Bs would probably disagree.

Let's just accept the fact that not many US citizens want to work for Ford. Low pay, toxic culture, rigid work styles, lack of career growth, lack of learning opportunities,... plus Michigan isn't the most attractive state to live a life in. Even people with associate degrees have better options than working for Ford.

H1Bs, on the other hand, are willing to do anything for the benefit of securing immigration. Willing to relocate to Michigan, willing to accept below-market pay, less likely to complain about employers, okay to return to office... as long as the company continues to sponsor their immigration status.
