Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

All that matters is to get Intel functioning at a more profitable level

No one cares about LBTs ambitions, or some hypothetical future where Intel is saved, or not.

Keep in mind that eventually, the Sun will turn into a red dwarf and incinerate the Earth.

All that matters before than is to get Intel functioning at a more profitable level than has been the case in at least a decade, and he is definitely doing that.

IFS, for example, is best served by selling the older fabs to pay off debt and reduce the org to just EUV fabs.

It doesn't matter if IFS is sold or not after that.

Same with Prodco. Shed the non-performing groups and products. Do it for its own sake, and that makes Prodco more valuable whether it is sold or not.

Everything he is doing makes the whole company better, regardless of what happens down the road.

@OP Intel needs to be profitable period. It's losing billions today, and losing less billions is not success. It needs to actually make money, not lose less money.

@cs Sorry but the Sun is not expected to explode, but merely expand into a Red Dwarf and consume the rocky, inner planets (while making Jupiter sweat a bit).

Then the outer shell burns off, leaving a white dwarf.

Now, if a neutron star were to pair up with that white dwarf, they could create a magnetar, and you wouldn't want to be on the incinerated Earth when that happens, because you would be vaporized (even if already dead).

Try to be somewhere else by then.

I'm sure there are a lot more things humanity should care about before our sun explodes than worrying about Intel.

Well that’s not what’s happening. Getting intel back to being profitable is NOT the plan. You do know and realize this, right? It’s all about selling intel off at this point.

A lot of people hate Intel and want to see it fail. Realize how many have been fired over the years. Many I know who were actually good and went on to find better jobs at great companies and are probably glad they got fired in hindsight. None of them would come back here and post as they are happy with their lives and feel no need to place blame for their present circumstances on a previous employer from long ago. No, only losers do that.

Intel employs 100,000 people unable to make a product anyone wants to buy. There is no return to profitability.

Thanks for reposting but it isn't like anyone's mind is going to change.

Trolls gonna troll, and they are so obvious in their efforts it is amusing to see.

I could not care less whether LBT and the Board are trying to 'save' Intel or prep it for sale.

The day may come, but so far I've not disagreed with a single thing LBT has done. This is what it means to do the right thing and Andy Grove would probably agree (if he were not so busy being dead at the moment).

I'm sure LBT will do something that is f'd up, as that is the case for all CEOs, in all companies. But so far, so good.

If the changes enable parts or the whole company to be sold, that will be at a higher valuation than it currently has, and with better job security for the remaining workers as well. There is no downside to that scenario for anyone.

Those same changes may set up Intel to move on to RISC-V or ARM development. By all accounts the company to this day has some strong chip design capabilities, but x86 is holding the company back.

x86 is still a cash cow but the Board will need to make a shift to a newer architecture at some point before the cash flow is reduced enough to prevent reinvestment in at least the design side of the company.

I don’t believe OP is going to care whether the sun incinerates the earth or not (being long dead at that point)
