Can I select just the dental and VSP for COBRA and not medical?

@c8 your mileage may vary, our dentist was very strict and the cash discunt was not even remotely close to having insurance.

To answer OP's question, yes Conra options are a la carte.

Consider going without dental insurance. I told my dentist that I would be paying out of my own pocket and no insurance and he gives me a 30% discount. Remember that dental coverage usually covers only $1,500 a year/person and pays 50% for fillings/crowns/etc. Yes, with insurance you do get routine cleanings twice a year for free and I do pay for those. However, I am still ahead of the game. You situation might differ but consider all of your options.

I have real US experience in this. I was WFR's back in Aug 2024. I took the 2 months free Cobra Medical and Dental and after the 2 months I went on Medicare and then put my family (wife, I and 22yo son) on the Cobra dental only plan. It is $177/mo for the family but I believe the max is 18 months. When it gets closer to the 18 months I will contact the Dell Cobra benefit advisor to see if it can be extended. If you have questions the Dell Cobra benefit advisors have been great helping to navigate these type of questions (1-888-335-5663).

Dream on. H*ll no, that would make too much sense and benefit you the employee, it s not about you in corporate america, it's what's good for the company.

Generally, no. Under federal COBRA law, you must elect the entire coverage package you had as an active employee. You cannot "unbundle" your plan to pick and choose only vision and dental while dropping medical coverage.

Just take the paid 2 months and get your own coverage later if needed. Too expensive.
