Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Show of hands

How many would actually quit over RTO? Upvote for yes, downvote for no. I'd just like to see if this really is a big deal to the majority.

It’s more that they hired me from across the country and I figured if they stopped remote work we’d be given a reasonable amount of notice to relocate. But the rumors are saying like 60 days?? Meanwhile I live in NY and there is an office there I can’t go to? Like I would go in already!

Good, keep building that poor work ethic the WFH builds. The future is not walking kids to bus stops, shopping, walking dogs during work hours. I feel sorry for nobody who loses their job and cant find work because of this selfish attitude. You work for them, if you don't like it, then quit. Look in the mirror and ask if you owned a company, would a worker like you add to the bottom line?

My team is already back three days a week since last year. If it goes to 4 or 5, then I’d look elsewhere. But the grass isn’t greener on this locally. Unless you get a remote job, good luck. US Bank has a strict policy and fires people over it. Medtronic has people in four days. General Mills three.

@m8 Or better yet, they will find a way to place remote workers on a bogus PIP in order to force them to resign without severance. Companies and HR have tricky ways of thinning their herds. Hence why no one should be loyal to any company.

I got ahead of it and found a new role. Best of luck to all the remote workers that are out of state. Highly recommend you start applying. Took me about a year to get placed. Job market isn’t getting any better and Targets balance sheet isn’t either. You will be the first to go with RTO and most likely without severance.

@gr The only way I could tolerate being in our open-concept work environment was by having headphones; and I thought I was the only one. Look around, and most people have their ears covered in order to concentrate. LOL

Otherwise, you have to put up with a sea of TMs on various virtual calls and talking over one another, and a chorus of competing sounds. Ugh.

I will definitely look for a new job. Not going to up and quit without something else though.

@c6 exactly.

I get so much more done at home, and am happier. Plus I don’t waste 2 hours commuting, paying to park, gas, wear and tear of my car. All just to sit in a cubicle surrounded by loud inconsiderate people.

I would absolutely consider it. I think some people are missing the argument here. I can do my job just as well working from home as I can in the office, actually I would argue even better. I work during my lunch break, I sign on at 8am, sometimes work into the evening. I am constantly glued to my computers. When I am in office I literally get nothing done, socialize a lot of the day, spend lots of money on food/drinks, and have a 2 hour commute. Why would I want to go back?
