GT Layoff Was Sc--wed Up

To "Win Now" the goal was to reduce GT cost while making it leaner, faster with reduced management layers.

Yes the GT cost was reduced and few bloated orgs were made leaner..

BUT - a lot of "does" were eliminated and we still have many layers of management. In my domain ( and many others) we have 3-4 managers managing 5-6 FTEs. On top of this we have two directors ( 1 Product & 1 Engg) in each area of the domain and another layer of two Sr Director ( 1 Product & 1 Engg) on top. To make a decision I have to align with at least 6 people on managerial role.
On top of this the idea to blindly lay off everyone in remote role without relocation option (except few orgs like DAI/AI ML) was very short sighted, lazy, biased and borderline unethical.
End result : GT will still be slow due to heavy management layer and because GT lost the "doers" it won't deliver anything meaningful. The "does" who are left will be forced to su-k it up to their managers instead of doing what's right for Nike. Hold on tight - It's going to be a downward spiral.

Nike is a global company with a local, narrow mindset. Every old timer keeps bragging about how good the old days were. Guess what Nike's revenue is indeed heading towards the old days but margin isn't. Hence layoffs will continue as well jobs migration to ITC.

How are we a "global" international company that fails to implement standard multi-state HR functions?

I already answered. HR is incapable, or someone up top doesn't want Nike to have successful outcomes for personal reasons.

@c4 Sounds like they did in fact do something about it. It's rare for companies like Nike to reverse salaries. I get you are bitter about getting laid off, but you are bi--hing up the wrong tree

HR is destroying the company, plain and simple.

  1. They have been unable or unwilling to control rampant racial bias in the hiring process.

  2. They have done NOTHING to create successful outcomes in regards to remote work.
    Shortly after my role was made remote I moved somewhere cheaper. What id--t wouldn't? HR never adjusted my pay. I would have happily taken more than a FORTY PERCENT PAY CUT. HR never asked, I'm not d-mb enough to offer.
    5 years later they finally laid me off. Deciding that remote work isn't viable, after having done nothing to make it successful.
    We should have a small office next to every techy campus in America. We could be hiring top graduates for 60-80k a head. But that's work for HR, and our racially driven tech leaders don't want Nike to succeed in America.

  3. Every time someone defrauds the company HR works with the perpetrator to brush the issue under the rug, rather than fix the underlying problems. We have dei heads treating the company like their personal h-nhouse. Tech leaders raiding the charitable giving coffers. Logistics departments that sell shipping information to thieves.

Nike is bleeding out of every hole and HR simply refuses (or is incapable of) doing their job.

Is everyone aware of how many work/projects are now moving to India after the layoffs? This is a huge red flag for me. I no longer trust this company. #1 There is no growth, no promotion after you worked so hard for the last couple of years. In a healthy environment, they would have promoted the strong contributors. #2 There is no more fun. You can't innovate fun projects, and Nike doesn't care about your career interests. My experience so far with Nike has been that I have been used, overworked, undervalued, and underpaid, and no one really cared about my career aspirations or passions. They took my ideas and gave credit to others for them, and I was only good for what they needed. And the projects I wanted to do were given to others. On top of all of this, the company appears unstable, erratic, chaotic, and not serious enough. With Nike, it just seems like they do the flavor-of-the-month project/technology and then move on to the next. I think it's worth starting to look for other jobs while we are still employed. The next round of layoffs will be significantly larger, as they realize they can move all work to ITC and save a substantial amount of money. It's really sad to see that the programming career is over in the era of AI. But hey, at least we've had a good run for the past almost 30 years since the internet started.

What's crazy is they got rid of the talent. The people they layed off were great, for the most part.

They kept, and are expanding on, low-rank ITC roles. They kept a bunch of juniors that su-k up $100k salaries and do jack sh-t.

What they should have done is struck some senior directors, and cut the lower-pay-grade staff by half.

Keep the talent, get rid of the chaff. Instead we kept the same leaders, and replaced knowledge with expensive twits. What are we even doing at this point?
