Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Company strategy is failing

After a few years here, it’s clear there’s little chance for career growth. The strategy from corporate is weak and poorly executed, and management focuses on layoffs instead of smarter resource planning. Without changes, things will just keep getting worse for everyone.

To move up, you have to apply for jobs a level up in a different department. Your own department will always say they don't have the budget to promote you.

@cp Amen. I worked in an area where managers just didn’t even bother having one on ones with direct reports. So there are never conversations about growth. One manager I had never showed green on Teams. Always away. Makes you wonder what they are doing all day. This guy told me to just badge in and then leave immediately. At the end of the day you can’t rely on a manger to help with your career progression because many just want the title but don’t really care about managing. I agree with another poster here. You have to actively seek out other job opportunities if you want to advance. I really don’t understand the mindset of working in one area your whole entire career unless it was very specific type of job. I get bored after doing something for about 3 years. Then I have to move on

I’ve been here 4 years and career growth or development has never been brought up or ignored when I bring it up. They just want me to do the required training. The strategy I see of everyone around me right now is absurd. Everyone is trying to either take someone else’s work, throw someone under the bus or take on an insane amount of work they end up not being able to complete all to save themselves from RIFs. It’s bred this toxic and inefficient culture. Meanwhile Upper and Middle management play d-mb like there are no RIFs. This company strategy is to keep RIFing till the wheels almost fall off, it’s this slow dth by a thousand cuts.

@c4 Do you think you’ll get any higher or are you pretty topped out at this point? Not to be rude but I had really good advancement at the beginning too. Once you hit the consultant level E13 you opportunities start to dwindle. I mean if all you want to be is aE13 then ok but many get stuck.

You have to apply for positions, you cannot wait for someone to give you a promotion at this company.

Unless you are hired as an executive there is NO growth - you can't grow if there is never a position - worked here for 13 yrs. Never saw a growth position and if somehow there was one - you know the favorite child got it and the interview process was a sham

They are in way over their heads. Overall, couldn't do any worse by making decisions based on a coin flip.
