Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Severance Agreement & Training

Did you already sign the severance agreement?

Companies like Oracle are expected to prepare employees for future technologies? Were there any yearly training plan offered?

I would have hoped there were some future technologies or some kind of training offered for any employees to make them get ready for internal or external positions.

What are your thoughts on this?

@c3 lol so if you work for SAP instead, you expect SAP to send you to Salesforce for training.

I completed 6 certifications (data science, AI foundations, Generative AI, Vector Search, AI agents, Redwood development) and religiously forwarded them to my manager and it made no difference.

They're training on their tech. Great if you want to work forever on Oracle software...

@bv Oracle, like other companies like it, hide behind all the online training cr-p they offer. Forget the skills training. You would laugh your butt off of you had to take the legal training for harassment, bribery, and all that stuff. Oracle is a company of lawyers, not engineers. It your are talented, don't work there.

Oracle is remaking itself as an AI company. I worked in Database and am an inventor on very relevant AI patent applications. Didn't matter bc I'm over 55. If you are over 55, you are dead to Oracle. Training? Current skills? Doesn't matter.

The people who still don’t get it and realize that oracle (or any company) can provide ALL the training in the world - and yes its still on you to make the time to take the actual courses. When you complain about stuff like this it’s really weakening the cause for employees. Because it’s such a cheap and lazy argument. Oracle provides heaps of training. It’s on you to take the courses. Move on from this topic and pick one that actually has weight.

I had just finished the Fusion and OCI AI certs a month before the layoff and had been talking with my manager about an upcoming project to put them into use. Didn't make a lick of difference, obviously.

I did get a lot of emails reminding me of all the online training that was available. Since I was already at retirement age I kind of didn't give a rat's tail.

@OP Oracle offered lots of free training and certifications in their own technology set.

It was the responsibility of the employee to manage their own career opportunities.
