Thread regarding Ally Financial Inc. layoffs

We finally made a list!

It's not a list of the best companies, or the best places to work, or anything like that. But it's a list, so it's something, right? /end sarcasm

The full list of major US companies slashing staff in the new year, including Microsoft, BlackRock, and Ally

@c2 Has anyone else noticed that MR doesn't even live in Charlotte? His commitment to Ally seems to be in passing. He hasn't worked any miracles. He hasn't created any new business, no new revenue streams, nothing. Why is he paid so much? For what?

A lot of valid points. Take it from someone who worked at Ally previously. I woke up before it was too late. Before I wasted too much of my professional career. Don’t wait. If you are a newer hire, work 2-5 years then search for a better paying job.good luck to those that remain. You’ll need it with MR steering the Titanic. Ally has had what, 10% of their work force forced out in the last year and a half. Wake up folks.

The Early Talent and Road to Hire programs were designed to bring in cheap labor. The strategy was clear: hire people with little experience, pay them low salaries, and minimize their growth while banking on their loyalty. The idea was that these employees wouldn’t know how much better they could have it elsewhere. These hires are put through trainings and bootcamps to make them as brand-loyal as possible, but the reality is, they’re being shortchanged from the start. Look around at people who were early talent, if they were not cut in the first year when they transitioned to FT they are probably still here or left on their own accord/poached. Layoffs don't really seem to hit them.... I was given explicit orders not to cut anyone in early talent. If you did an internship or road to hire, you seem less secure, not sure though. I just know early talent seems to be the Creme de la Creme, they all seem to be brand ambassadors who couldn't imagine thinking anything negative about Ally. No clue why but once that was pointed out to me I could not unsee it.

I was also recruited with a lot of promises made to me. That was back in 2018. Since then, every year has felt worse than the one before. Very few of those promises have materialized, despite my being a top performer, leading one of the most impactful teams in the organization, and receiving awards both internally and externally.
Over the past four years, I’ve had half a dozen rockstars poached from my team. Ally refuses to match rival salaries or offer competitive bonuses. It’s nearly impossible to retain talent when they can easily secure a $30K–$80K raise at another company.

If you’re young under 35, especially I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for employment. This company is going to keep making cuts, and right now, you still have the opportunity to join a place with a better culture and brighter future. Others have said it, but it bears repeating: Ally doesn’t care about you, and they’re not interested in doing right by their employees anymore.

Apply elsewhere, get a raise, and tender your resignation. No one will judge you for it, and most of us won’t be upset we’ll envy you.

I used to love this company. I believed in the mission wholeheartedly. I didn’t apply anywhere else, didn’t even look, because I trusted this place. Now, I can’t help but wonder what my career could’ve been if I’d left sooner. Corporate loyalty gets you nowhere. My former coworkers who left Ally are earning significantly more and seem happier.

I don’t want you to have the same regrets.

I was recruited and chose ally because they told me it was a top place to work. The culture was great and there was lots of upward growth.

One of my biggest regrets.
