Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

In-office is NOT digital activity

Please stop conflating in-office requirements with digital activity. The expectation that has been put out is 8 hours in-office. Period. Somehow this has been conflated by id--t managers who are telling their team that they must also have 8 hours of digital activity. This is nonsense. In order to achieve 8 hours of digital activity you would have to be in-office for more than 8 hours (assuming you use the restroom, collaborate with others, eat lunch, etc.).

The fact that they can track digital activity hasn’t even been formally announced, nor have there been any expectations set around it. If we don’t separate the two, we run the risk of 8 hours of digital activity becoming some unwritten rule/norm that we’re all unnecessarily following. Let’s not bring that evil on ourselves. Show up to the office 3 days a week for 8 hours/day and try to have more than a few hours of activity per day.

@c1 this could not BE more dead on. Well said and (unfortunately) totally accurate. Feeling je-ked around is an understatement. Feeling disrespected is closer to it.

2015: sure WFH, it saves the company money and we respect you as an employee and human being. If you want, go into your hub as needed, that's fine too.
2020: really, please work from him because viruses. We don't even want you going to the hub, just don't do it.
2022: you will go to building A at the hub or we will fire you, but sit anywhere you want. We need you to go in to collaborate around the water cooler and things.
2024: psyche, the building is no longer a hub because we hired an exec in some random place.
2024: we are firing you being in building A.
2025: we are firing you for collaborating rather than sitting at your desk and clicking your mouse, but you have to click it in an approved way, no clicking outside those bounds.
2025: you vill sit only in zee nayborhud that we declare you vill sit in!
2025: we are firing you for not sitting in a building for 8 hours.
2026: we are firing you for not being in the same city as the rest of your team. Can I move to that city. No, you can't.

This is how it's going folks. Keep trying to convince me that these executives care about your rear end being in a seat in one of their buildings. All evidence suggests that it's just another attrition scheme like all the rest.

Digital activity is already being tracked and reporting given to managers. And yes this is separate from 8 hours in office. But if you go into the office for 8 hours and have 2 hours of digital activity, you are going to get talked to about it. Best to be having a minimum of 6.5-7 hours of digital activity a day. And if you have in office meetings where you don’t need to be using your computer make sure they are on your office calendar with those involved.

computer activity can mean a lot of things, such as logging in. just heading in a 9 and bading out at 5 isn't going to cut it off they are also looking at your computer/network activity for the timestamps as well. between all my in person meetings and casual collaboration around the water cooler I probably only have 4-6 hours of actual computer usage.

@OP

"Show up to the office 3 days a week for 8 hours/day and try to have more than a few hours of activity per day."

Nope. It's "or", not "and".

They can force me in or I can put in reasonable work hours. It's never going to be both.

The communications sent to managers does specify computer activity as an element, that’s why it’s being communicated. Most managers wouldn’t just say something of that nature for the heck of it.

Wellsfargo uses the term "Team Member" the same way St-lin used "Comrade"
