Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Rehire after layoff

Is there a cool down period after layoff at Oracle. If I got terminated and collected my severance , how long before I get rehired ?

I heard rehire interviews for technical positions are now being handled by by AI agents, a special kind of h*ll.

The nightmare you can't wake up from.

@s3 Exactly, they don't want you to ever be rehired. I do know a few people who were rehired after a few years, but they are the exception and not the rule.

If the intention was to allow laid off employees to apply for other jobs, Oracle could have keep access to the internal careers application up to the termination date. Bottom line, Oracle wanted.to get rid off you/us by any means.

My understanding of why some corps put a do not rehire flag in people's records after a mass layoff is so that their old manager won't try to sneak ex-employees back in.

Of course at O an approval to hire someone has to go up the management chain, so it's likely that some VP would not approve a rehire, at least in the short term.

@eh It depends on who enters the termination in the system, and that's usually the manager. In usual situation only gross misconduct is considered to mark someone as nob rehire, but maybe that has changed.

@c1 Isn't it usually HR who places the do not rehire flags?

HR usually discourages managers from flagging employees as non hireable unless they are fired by gross misconduct. That said, anything is possible in this case.

If you were laid off in this past RIF you're likely flagged with a "do not rehire" flag - technically it's called an "eligible for rehire" flag in HRs systems that is set upon termination, and given how this last round of RIFs was determined, it's unlikely anyone is eligible.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dejobbed have a "do not rehire" flag in their file. Other companies have done this, including HP during Fiorina's "reign of te---r".

Per their layoff FAQs, if you are re hired within 6 months, you may have to pay back a portion of the severance you received.

No cooldown period but you would be giving up the option of finding a better paid job. Also your RSUs won’t be reinstated, and you will have to repay the severance package (and not even sure how taxes work in that case).

Also you have to payback your severance if you join before a year and no negotiation on new salary as well.

The only way to assure you won't get laid off is if you own the company. Anything else, you're just a record in a database that can easily be deleted as management sees fit.

I would wait until your severance period runs out. I've had so many friends laid off from there that came back in different roles.

People shouldn't think these layoffs are particular to Oracle, they're all doing it. No mantter WHERE you go - if you can even find a company that's hiring that accepts your resume - they lay off too. You don't need to consider Oracle the 'bad guy' in this when everyone's doing it.

Unless your skills or experience are hyper-specific to Oracle, there are other options readily available.

Why would you WANT to get rehired? The company has told you you're surplus, unneeded, extra-baggage. Take that to heart and don't look back.
