If I was an individual contributor it might be easier to focus on the work by day while preparing a job search at night. But I have direct reports looking to me for clarity, people who are worried and hoping for answers, raises, and promotions. Meantime all I know comes from the news and these boards. I don’t understand the rationale behind leaking layoff targets to the press (again) and being asked (again) to carry on as normal for the next two months while trust erodes.

@d6 you're giving yourself too much credit thinking managers or plenty of managers come to this site or would even reply to such a question.. stop posting useless topics just to satisfy your compulsion to feel relative on social media like this
Not following what arguing about numbers has to do with the question in the original post. If anyone is getting laid off, the point stands. 2k, 5k, 100, there’s still no details for managers and directs have questions. It’s part of the job but it’s especially awful for the past year.
@cs look at the FTVlive guy post today a--hat + that's where the info is from hot head
3,000 people make up about 39% of the $2 billion target. So, another 2,000 layoffs -whether from cable networks or not - may be expected.
Post has nothing to do with news or cable or whatever division you rep. are you fu--ing lost? Acting like you know anything when you’re clueless as the rest of us. One good comment followed by a bunch of stupid bullsh-t.
@c5 um pompous bu-----d why don't you stop misinterpreting other peoples posts. Your hot head is leading to major reading comprehension failure. Nobody said the main cutbacks were employees, in fact what was said is the cutbacks are all about dollars which 2,500 - 3,000 or more employees will be affected - didn't say the $2billion were in employee salaries. And the post didn't say the MAIN layoffs were going to be in News + the post heading simply mentioned news is A target not THE target. Lighten up hot head
@C5 You are correct in that CBS is definitely not the main target of the cuts but the cuts there are still going to be fairly deep when compared to the overall size of the CBS News staff.
@c1 first of all the whole 2B in cuts is not coming from employee reductions. Second CBS News is not the main target of the cuts the cable networks are.
The cuts are about dollars not a people number, though the number figure is expected to surpass the $2 billion which would now be more like 2,500 - 3,000 employees and the CBS News division to be hit hard
You’re a good person for being concerned. My managers simply don’t care, the answer is a generic, “we don’t know much” - which is also the truth but given their track record, they are probably worried about themselves mostly. The most you can do is be as truthful as is possible, supportive of their growth (here or if they want to pursue a career externally) and manage expectations within reason. I’ve heard some managers tell their direct reports to keep options open and take their vacation days.
