Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It’s all completely random

Makes me wonder why I ever bothered. I regret every bit of overtime, every extra effort, and most of all, being invested in project outcomes. Nothing ever paid off. Yet I can get cut on a whim.

It’s like being deeply in love with a girl, only to suddenly realize you were the only one who truly felt that way that her love was never as deep as yours. Don’t fall in love too quickly; the one who says “I love you” first often ends up losing the game and feeling betrayed.

@OP Both you and your employer can end the relationship with very little notice.

A job for life or clearly defined career path no longer exists in most industries.

Build an emergency fund and invest in yourself. Do your contracted work and then seek overtime payments for any extra.

Continued periods with no salary increases means your compensation falls your on year.

RSU's aren't worth much.

@c0 yes, you are right. I am sorry for that. When I read that post I reacted too emotionally, as it reminded me the situation in my team where most colleagues started staying at work constantly longer and longer each day. It started from innocent staying just to finish one thing, then it moved to more often situations, and after some time the manager just started treating it as norm that team should be always available, just on demand, slack notification. It was an absurd situation that when our work day was finished, wanted to close the computer and suddenly manager pinged with the new tasks, it needed to be explained WHY YOU DO NOT STAY LONGER. And manager was not happy about that. In my team there were only 3 of us that wanted to keep health balance between work and private life. We tried to explain to others that the more they are staying overtime, the more will be expected from them - what is today your 200%, the next day is your 100%. It was personally really frustrating experience being in this circle.

It is a time of empathy and we should be supporting eachother. Most of us did not get rich by working here, but it did give us stability. When things were going well and you were made to believe that hard work would get you rewarded, you could easily compromise and think that sacrificing a bit of your personal time or getting more involved in your job would actually pay off. I ve had colleagues who were working hard, available at any time, and when they left the company it was like they never existed. O always focused on the processes that get things done and not on the person. People were never put at the center of success and rewarded generously because the risk was too high if they would have left. So here we are where O still doesnt treat people with dignity and turns this RIF into a very bad season of the hunger games. So lets support each other....

@an

This guy gets his jollies making rude comments, massively upvoting them, and then downvoting anyone who calls him on it.

Extremely bizarre behavior in my view.

There are many employees like you at O, weak people that don’t have respect for themselves, letting their managers managing their life balance. You think you are valuable, the strongest employee, you can do anything what they tell you to do. But the sad thing is that you are weak and show that your private time means nothing to you. You are like slave - always available, always ready, always helpful for literally nothing. Put a shame on you.
