@ce Not sure if trolling, re--rded or an ITC employee.

@bc Neither the US nor Europe give a slightest sh-t about their own citizens' financial or holistic wellbeing, seeking savings at all costs. That is the problem, layoffs in private sector being just one of many side effects of the forementioned.

@c1 Kind of sounds exactly like what folks in the US are getting, except they don't need to actually keep working during those 2 months.

@bz What are you talking about, no one's ever laid off immediately in any EU country, you mostly have 1 month to 3 months notice period which they still have to compensate for even if you no longer have actual work to do.

@bz Laid off, effective a date in the future. yes, their accounts all stay active. This is the same that happened last RIF at EHQ. After people's last days, some would occasionally send a slack msg about something. Or other people who didn't know what was up, were pinging them about issues to be told that they aren't working any more.

@bs So they were all laid off effective immediately, but somehow their accounts getting left behind is a sign of "better labor protections"?

Everybody at PTC — gone, okay? Totally out. But their accounts? Still active. Can you believe it? Because over in Europe — EMEA, they call it — they’ve got these labor laws, very strong, very complicated, and they don’t let companies just fire people in 15 minutes.

I'm not seeing anyone from PTC laid off yet. Are they just getting notice of shutdown within x weeks or something and have to keep working? going full remote?

I don't blame Indians for studying engineering and computer science to give themselves skills to compete in the global economy. However, the US and Europe need to seriously think about how to ensure our children have jobs. First we lose manufacturing jobs, now we're losing white collar jobs.

Did PTC really get laid off today?

@OP This is another move that will in coming months trigger significant deterioration of company's technical backbone's quality and delivery and a very wrong place to choose in search for short-term savings.

This is wild! My manager who was a victim yesterday had said of the past 6 months PTC was actively interviewing and hiring.
