Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Total Compensation

Wonder if severance packages will have considerations against "total compensation". Thats what we've been told for years as why we are paid less overall. Wonder if there is some legal angle that leverages this.

Do your self a favor and look for a lawyer. Try this one - stlawyers.ca. I have looked at various ones. Book an appointment and have them review. They have some information. The company is low balling us! Who knows, enough go to the same lawyer, class action? HR watching this site wouldn’t be happy! Let alone the media coverage…

I can tell you from the suncor layoffs
There was no continuation of benefits, no rsus and pension value calculated at the termination date, not at the end of of severance.

There was an Air Canada court case a coupke years ago that determined your pension contributions, benefits, savings plan, etc should all be factored in.

I suggest everyone consult their lawyers regarding the severance offered as Imperial typically has been a little shy on these combined things with people I know who have been go.

They have all been told its going to cost them more to get it though.

You will get some continuation of benefits and you should get the defined contribution pension matching for the length of the severance.
Defined benefit pension you will get the commuted value and is worth noting if that is at termination date or end of severance period.
