Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

We can't move forward like this

Management never learn from their mistakes. What happens instead is they just ignore anything that went wrong (heaven forbid there's any kind of conflict in management meetings instead of the usual circle...back-patting) and when the time comes, they do it again the exact same way. Rinse and repeat. No wonder we're failing so hard.

DW is clearly fits “NSI with distinction” category.. he still remains as CEO! Probably doing a PIP..

Get out while you can. Highly unlikely to be able to collect the pension in its entirety. The company will let you go before that happens.

I am very curious to see if they start raiding the pension or reducing the funding level. I am convinced that as the industry and company declines the likelihood of a pension change increases. That is why I am no longer letting myself be swayed to stay by the promise of a pension. That and the fact that I’ve seen so many people in their 50’s be shown the door after working at the company since they were 22 years old be suddenly told they are NSI.

I am curious what via company they are modeling their strategy after? The world still uses coal but demand continues to decline much like the future of our product. So which company is #winning in the dying coal industry that we can all look to for inspiration? How are their employees and shareholders faring? I’m sure their board and CEO is doing fine paying themselves bonuses as they declare bankruptcy and throw their pension obligations on the government pension guarantee board resulting in retirees getting pennies on the dollar.

In the past their line has always been that as soon as it is economic we will jump in with both feet and follow fast. How well did that work for shale? Now we see the strong balance sheet needed to fund such a pivot no longer exists as well. Management has destroyed a once great company and has no plan for how to adapt to changes that are occurring. Only plan seems to be the last one standing in a dying industry.

Same here, while pay is nice, it is an embarrassment telling others that I work for this horrible company.

One because if they have ever invested the company its always that they have lost money on their investment and two because of the sickening we will continue to destroy the world without coming up with alternatives that the company promotes.

Well put. I too am tired of waiting and have no faith in management. Actively looking for a new job.

The managers of UIS Subsurface and RTD were happy to sacrifice a lids proportionate share of their staff, and now they pretend we can just carry on like nothing happened. There is no sense of ownership, and no shame.

They act like they had nothing to do with it, not the disaster they presided over, not the quotas they owned in this slaughter, and definitely not the pieces we are left to pick up in this mess.

I’m sick of tired of the “tough environment” spiel, and the “we’ll come back stronger” lie.
I’ve given up on waiting for them to offer direction and leadership; after all, they care only for their post, and their power game.

And then, out of the blue, you will be placed on PIP for no apparent reason. You better keep up the hipo work and worrying about who is going to stab you in the back.

@1ujc+18umCp6q Halo effect is real. Self perpetuates. Key is to be identified as HiPo early on. If you aren’t there are no in ramps later so you’re better off leaving and trying somewhere else.

@efw+18umCp6q Lol. I continued to be ranked well.. it’s hard to fall when you are identified early in your career. But enjoying reading the layoff postings! Surely entertaining..

The problem is that all the ‘processes/procedures’ have raised a high percentage of middle and top managers who are good ‘executors’....not good business people or creative thinkers. Now the processes and procedures are falling short of guiding us in this new future, and all of our ‘executors’ are fish out of water. ...but they cannot admit they are in over their heads, because they would be sidelined. ...so instead, they tweak a process here or there, and double down on following procedure. Greater leaders of the past have built a system that developed mediocre leaders of the present.
