Sh*t is happening today.

F* the CDA, what the company is doing is not right.
Was anyone in IT affected? I haven't heard about anyone from that area.
@bw Absolutely not correct. My area lost one out of four in Corporate R&D. And we've had two retirements in 2025 who were not replaced and another one left for a position elsewhere and that position was also not replaced. Overall, we are down from 5 directors to 2 (and we have one Sr Mgr). We are definitely running thin.
@br That number does not include planned “natural attrition”. Several retirees will simple not be replaced and similar things. Total headcount reduction including non-replacements is 51.
Townhalls following notifications were vague at best. MedSurg VP glazed over layoffs and spent plenty of time on highlighting promotions. Never mentioned the total number of redundandcies. What a disgrace.
@bw not correct. They are doing it quietly, but several CRL employees in my immediate environment were made redundant.
@bw do you even work at Solventum? It's been cited ad nauseum within CRD that Bryan thinks Central R&D is weird for Medical companies and has never had one, and whether he sees any value in it. Hence moving from an island to MedSurg. There is no ivory R&D tower at Solventum.
A library searcher was laid off as well. 25+ years of experience, and kicked to the curb. This is bullsh-t.
@bw That's simply not true. The central discovery group in medsurg (former CRML) lost 5 out of 15 and central analytical lost 4 out of 20.
@ad I heard there was no layoffs in corporate R&D. They wouldn’t dare touch the ivory tower
45 headcount reduction in R&D.
For Health Info Systems, I heard that all Client Success Executives (CSE's) are being laid off. I don't know how many there are. Then, I heard a new role/new position is going to be created with similar responsibilities to take the place of CSE's and those who are laid off can apply for those roles. Seems like a lot of hoopla and paperwork, so I am not sure how much this group will be impacted. I learned all this through the rumor mill, so I am not sure how accurate any of this is.
Guess only innovation and growth for the near future will be in acquisitions -
Until the final deal is made for the whole kit&kaboodle in next 3-4 years. The acquisition of bit players will keep share holders who don’t give a po-p how growth happens — as long as there is growth.
@ad R&D is considered a cost not an asset. The same mindset is "flourishing" at 3M under Bill Brown too.
Bryan has no real plans for innovation. He has some kind of Solventum Plan that last 4 years, until the rest of the parts are spun or sold like Filtration.
The slow and sad ending to what was once a great company.
Yes, MedSurg R&D. Rumours say in the 50ies, across all teams and regions. Heard from some indivuduals they are being eliminated, including top innovators, people with hundreds of patents. My gut says R&D will become more administrative and PM-centered. No more foundational work like in 3M. Guess they will outsource a lot. I believe corporate R&D is also being butchered.
We had a townhall with MedSurg leadership who were cheerful, joking around and hyperactive. A total discgrace if you see what is happening now. "Put people first" up my butt...
@a4 Any indication on count? Meetings for our team were vague. Some groups are shifting around, there were references to cuts, but nothing about the number or where they were.
Large number of layoffs and restructuring happening in MedSurg R&D.
