Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

More EOIs now, fewer cuts later

How many people choose to take the EOI will ultimately determine how many positions will need to be cut later. Let’s just hope there are enough employees who are genuinely interested in taking the opportunity. The more who volunteer, the fewer of us may end up on the chopping block. It’s not that I’m particularly passionate about this job, but the current job market is tough, and there’s no indication it will improve anytime soon. I’d prefer to stay here as long as possible - there are bills to pay.

The more people willing to ride the bus to work every day, the less traffic I will have when I drive my own car in.

@xh Physical health? Hit the gym downstairs. Heck, you can even run two-a-days if you'd like! I've seen it done.

Fewer cuts later? Don’t forget the 2026 layoffs, the 2027 layoffs, and …

Some of us have just had enough. Finding equivalent pay just isn’t a concern. Mental health, physical health, and happiness are far more important.

The "point"... lots of disgruntled people on here seem to think they can find better elsewhere... let them. They get a payout and it's an opportunity for then to raise their hand for first consideration. Imo it's mostly beneficial to those who are retirement age. Anyone already looking to leave, for personal reasons or if they were already thinking about retirement within the next few years will jump on it. Doesn't apply to me, but let them! Don't talk them out of it!

What’s the point of submitting an EOI when COP is one of the highest paying companies in Texas if the EOI package pays the same as a severance? Job offer elsewhere (if you can find one) will be lucky to get you a 3% bump. Yay

@bw The EOI package will match the severance package. You won’t know if your EOI is accepted until the same time as the layoffs. It’s all just an illusion of control for us common smucks.

Does an EOI pay better up front than the eventual forced RIF? If you want people to volunteer make the stakes more lucrative.

@OP Same sentiment here. If you have to work, my job is meh, but the company is solid. It would be hard to ever going back to working every friday. 9/80s changed the trajectory of my life.

Think they already know who will be cut. EOI just a formality to give you sense of control. Positions already determined and individuals will be high graded based on their skills, knowledge and likability. Job market is tough but not impossible. Keep your head up it’s just a job.
