Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Swearing Executives

I really like the man but I do not think having our executives swearing in employee forums is classy. I actually find it offensive. On a construction site fine but I expect more from our executives.

All VPs swear and also have scandals through their careers.

That is what gets you there, they are the devil.

Presidents and Vice Presidents are generally all smiles at forums (public and internal XOM forums).

However, behind closed doors, Presidents and Vice Presidents will cut you off at your kneecaps if you are not delivering on your scorecard objectives which impacts their promotability and their end of the year restricted stock options.

Hmmm even this site censors the word sh-t. Maybe we shouldn’t be saying it at work. Maybe it is offensive to some people.

There are certain countries where we operate where this language would be very offensive. What happens when a competitor gets the deal because the royal family doesn’t like listening to our swearing executives? Perhaps we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. I guarantee the Chinese aren’t going to be swearing in meetings. Respect yourself and respect others. Use appropriate language.

I wonder if his mother was in the room if he would talk like that. I certainly would not. Not how I was raised.

There is a disturbing decrease in the quality of public communication. People don’t know how to express their thoughts well anymore.

The increasing prevalence of swearing in American public life, politics, and now at ExxonMobil is a symptom of cultural decline, reflects a broader shift towards vulgarity and the erosion of traditional civility. Sad.

To me people who swear at work lack professionalism, self-control, and leadership skills.

The boardroom comment was funny.

Those who have ever interacted with a board or external investors would note that they swear all the time.

There was a female stupivisor who swore like a sailor. She boasted she could not stop it. She was a low class individual who whined all the time. She was eventually moved up into a manager position. Every time she cursed I could see the engineers cringe. She was liked and protected.

Y’all have a pretty weak definition of what it means to be authentic if swearing ticks the box for you.

Going to LaQuinta during work hours is my authentic self. Why do you have a problem with that? People go to hotels.

After it was pointed out he himself said that he probably shouldn’t have used that word. Then he proceeded to use it again. Odd.

The fact that it was raised as uncommon should tell you all you need to know. Swearing in an employee forum as an executive goes against social norms.

So we can start swearing in the shareholder and investor meetings now right? You think for a minute if I as a non hipo start swearing in meetings it won’t be we-ponized and used against me?

There is no world where swearing in an employee forum is professional or necessary.

Usually people who swear a lot cannot stop even if they try. It is an easy class indicator.

Who gives a fu-k of an executive swears. Their job is to deliver shareholders a sold return on capital and deliver their employees safely home.

If you want someone to talk pretty or blow smoke up your a-s... there's tinder for that.

It is pretty sad to see the US president and now executives swearing. Manners matter. Normalization of foul language is not progress as a society. I find it very troubling the language kids use in school. They are learning it at home I am sure. I am in my 40s and I guess I was just raised differently. I don’t speak that way. I was taught it is low class and to learn how to express myself appropriately.

The new GP prez came across like a leader I would like work for. Being critical for him being a real person during a forum is petty.

People cuss. An executive which is willing to bring their authentic self is refreshing.

Those Exxon cucks who are offended can sit in the back, stay quiet, and watch.

XOM keeps them in ‘training cages’ for so long that when they’re finally released back into society, hey have zero manners. They stumble out like over-sheltered lab animals who forgot how to human.

At a Shell reservoir simulation forum in the early 80s (I missed it by a few years), the first slide said: Simulation is a lot like masturbation. If you do it long enough, you begin think it's the real thing. Classic!
