Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What percentage of those working in GT are engineers?

Engineers vs non-engineering background breakdown, does anyone know?

I'm an engineering leader and I can confirm: a lot of my peers indeed never wrote a single line or actually had any sort of engineering role. Most of the times they' are "delivery managers" who are focused on making sure things get done and if any company wide direction comes, that gets executed. No eye for metrics, have no clue what a decent SDLC looks like and on their orgs toxic engineers thrive, changing technology every other day because no one is slightly aware of the problem of certain actions.

Most of the leaders have not written a single line of code in their life yet are calling the shots. Welcome to Nike.

GT needs more engineers and less of people who have engineer titles but don’t code

That's why the output is so poor and so much work is done manually.

Before I got fired in feb 2024 I was the one who did all those stats.

I would say less than 30% were engineers, and that included consultants.

It was probably less than 25% if just staff

There are bunch of people who do support work and analyst work but tagged as engineers especially in some domains related to supply chain, that number is mind boggling...it's an oxymoron and the thing is lot of code writing engineers were let go couple of weeks back in other domains, it always irks me how Nike is conducting the lay offs

Lots of people in GT are not engineers. In fact, I know some people who are labelled as engineers who have no engineering background and do bo engineering work. They continue to stick around while actual engineers get laid off.
