Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I'm not really sure if onsite is being "monitored" anymore

Not sure why but, I have a hunch that onsite swipes are no longer being monitored by execs. They took the dashboard away from all of us (IC's and leaders) and I suppose the only reason for doing so is to make us blindly go in and not calculate days we dont?

Even at that though, my personal opinion is that Dell has conditioned us to go in 5 days/week "or else" and will never tell us directly if it's STILL being monitored. So, for all we know they aren't monitoring jack and we have no idea... but go in like good sheep... out of fear and fear alone.

@e2 Originally yes, it was up to your manager for like a month or two lol. Go read the policy again though. It was last updated May 4th.

No, it is not up to your manager, or director, or VP. RTO 5 days/week is literally "mandatory" and "non-negotiable."

I suppose it does fall back on your VP to decide how much he/she cares about it but ultimately, it is literally NOT up to them.

@dz why? I've averaged 2.2 day since even the three day started and I have been promoted, moved roles and received raises and RSUs. No one ever cared dude, you were just one of the sheep who was scared enough to not call their bluff...plus the policy specifically states it is up to your manager.

@dg Technically speaking, badge swipes are the only thing they can use against you as that's what's in the policy. A "regular" workday is super vague - which is on purpose of course - but, a regular day is whatever anyone wants to perceive that as.

"You are expected to be in office 5 days/week and work a regular day in office." Ok, well nobody does that lol. Flexibility is their go-to word and well... My regular day in office is 2 hours and since it's flexible, I choose to work the remaining hours at home

@ct I mean, put it this way... I'm deemed onsite and drive 50 minutes to the office more days than not per week. Essentially about 100 miles round trip DAILY.

I also pay $20 in tolls a week, and no. There really isn't a way to avoid the toll roads.

Then another $67.54 in gas per week. So I spend at minimum $90-100/week JUST to go into an office in which none of my coworkers work at to join virtual meetings that I can do at home. I get there at 10-10:30 and then leave at lunch because I refuse to fund dell's cafeteria's ridiculous prices for sub-par food and refuse to be in office for more than 2 hours.

My raise was a whopping 1.75% as was my entire teams. Most of whom are remote. Promotions have been quite literally non-existent for the last 6 years unless you live in any country other than the US. So remotes aren't exactly missing out on freakin promotions lmfao.

One of my teammates switched roles and jumped to a different team for a promotion. Logically I would have filled their position for a promotion, right? Nope. Instead they repurposed that vacancy and sent it to another country for very cheap promotion for some Indian who didn't deserve it.

There is NO benefit to going onsite versus being remote at this point. Zero. While they say that remotes aren't eligble for promotions or internal movement... WHO CARES?! It's not like they are or have been promoting anyone in the US, anyways!

I actually love my job but like, am at the point where I am willing to test the RTO bs because I really don't think it's being monitored as harshly as they want us to think... But, because I want to keep my job I'll still be a good sheep and go in at least 3 days/week.

@bs It absolutely was and still us being monitored, with badge swipes and VPN access. Upper management is just relaxing a bit because the stock price is so high right now.

@bt And promotions and the bonus. The rest of us got piddley increases that don’t even cover the health insurance increases and commuting costs.

@bt Because RTO didn't mean Jack Shyt. Everyone called Dell's bluff.

🐑! Why are those of us forced back into the office having to LOOSE more money just to do pur jobs when remotes are not! WHY aren't people stepping up and saying NO with gas prices the way they are? Remotes got a RAISE folks ;-)

It never was really being monitored. Daily swipes were always just a FUD campaign, another tool to pi-s you off to get you to quit. Dell execs aren't worth dog shyt.

I noticed in the new ODW time card that there is a field that has to be filled in which you can choose onsite or home office against the hours worked. Obviously one can just select onsite for this but it's an interesting addition. Weather it will be used for anything... who knows.

I plan to ask my director in our next 1x1 if they plan on putting a new dashboard up on ODW... I don't actually care if they do or not but it will open the conversation about this cr-p, and maybe he knows some stuff... idfk man
