That is not true. They now have a separate budget for only the young. We only get 1% but the young gets 8%after 2 yrs with a promotion. I haven't gotten 8% in the last 10yrs. Never had an NI so what's the reason? TOTALLY ILLEGAL.

For decades, US trained and gave away it's technology and jobs to China. And now it will do the same for India.

Folks, as Pekka stated when he was the CEO, the company needs to shrink between 72,000 and 76,000 by end of 2026. And the current CEO agreed with that range. So don't be fooled by all the young hires, cause you're going to be training them for your job within the next 6 to 12 months. Then if you're over 50, you'll be shown the door. And don't forget the 3000 people they added to the running tally when they bought Infinera.

@gc Those middle aged transfers from India get paid less in India and when transferred to US will be on H1B or other work visa. They are "transferred" to take over American jobs. (Hopefully, the $100k fee kicks in.) If they were experienced Americans, who had worked in American companies, and now age 50 or over, they would have NO chance of getting a job at Nokia (even with lower pay). The only way to get a job at Nokia is if you're young, and/or on visa. No American young graduate wants 1% salary increase, and than after few years get outsourced to an Indian company like Infosys or HCL with half the benefits and triple the healthcare monthly cost. Then when they are transferred to companies like Infosys or HCL, for the first year they may guarantee the same salary and benefits but than you have to work as a consultant for Infosys in another state after the year (or contract term) is over. And if you don't take the job Infosys offers you in another state (or far location), you are basically firing yourself without any severance pay and unemployment benefits (since you don't want to move and take the job they offer, you're basically firing yourself). You do NOT get paid unemployment if you are fired or fire yourself.

It looks like Nokia attracts young folks but the hidden truth is they just do not hire seasoned workers at any pay. I have been to multiple inverviews with Nokia across multiple products and the common theme for age discrimination is when they tell you "You are overqualified for this position." When I tell the hiring manager and recruiter that I am comfortable with the pay range it is ignored as a qualification. Nokia does not want better talent than the job requires. Experience is not a plus at Nokia. It might help to know that phone interviews go extremely well and then the next interview is video when I am told I am overqualified. There is a bias at Nokia towards younger workers.

Nokia can only attract young folks to work there who are on work visa due to close to 0% salary increase and a dull working environment. No American graduate will work for Nokia with a minimum salary rate. They get better offers elsewhere. Why do you think Nokia has so many H1B, O1, OTA employees?

Next scheduled layoffs would normally happen on Feb 5 2026, but I have a feeling there will be something happening in Dec 2025 depending on Q4 earnings and politics. This is only my guess. Just take a look at Oracle, they continue to layoff even after all the attention from US gov't and media and other corporate partnerships.
By the way, if anyone knows what the Infinera layoff schedule was, please post (example: every third month, second Friday of the month). One thing to remember about this company is that they never stop laying off people, and they never give a salary increase even close to inflation rate. It's more like close to 0% and for many years it has been 0%.
