Upcoming WFR

Does anyone know or has heard if there are changes to the severance package this year or recently?

All of legacy EMC employees in China will be laid off.

It is reassuring to know that labour laws are more in favour of employees outside of the US. Might be a good time for a cool change. To those gen xers see what I did there?

@bq I dont think people realize how amazing PIP's actually are. I mean sure, surface level they su-k. They load you up with impossible metrics to meet, MORE work, and basically make your job impossible. Most half smart people know it's a way for HR to get rid of you... without firing you.

BUT, a PIP is typically at minimum 3 months and sometimes even 6 months. That's 3-6 months of PAYCHECKS, Insurance, etc... Take advantage of that and spend 95% of your time looking for and applying to new jobs on dells dime. The thing with PIP's is that they can be extended so long as their is progress being made. So the key is to work and at least TRY to improve but, don't put too much effort into it also.

A PIP is a fantastic package tbh. Far better than what you'd get if you were laid off. Also, if you do find a new job within the PIP time period, you can quit dell and that PIP doesn't get recorded by HR. It basically never existed. PIP's are recorded ONLY if you pass it, or fail it and are then terminated.

Source: Have been PIP'd before.

@a2 That's true but, that's why a smart person would go to a lawyer FIRST. And then sign

@ay IF true, I guarantee it's going to be a DOGsheet package lol. 1 month pay + 1 week per 3 years + 5% of bonus (prorated) or something horrible like that.

Enough people will take that and leave, unfortunately. Or I suppose, fortunately... as it will only reduce the need to WFR for those of us who want to stay at dell.

@ay if the VSP is true, I don't think they will have enough people to even do a WFR lol.

Hello "high source"!

It's not truly rubbish news until "high source" makes an appearance.

A very high source confirmed that because of the magnitude of coming right sizing,the new policy will be 2 weeks pay in total and 1 month of continued benefits.

@dn

Don't you worry. You'll have it all to yourself soon enough.

So, it sounds like we're admitting the best employees are the older employees. You say the best would leave in a heartbeat and the only ones eligible for a VSP would be older folks that have the age and tenure to retire. What happened to 'dinosaur'.

@b9 tried before, and failed.
All the best folks would leave in an instant

@bq well, then people must treat their PiPs as a package and do absolutely nothing during the PiP period.

No wfr. PIPS start next week based off attainment and the current metrics. Team of 30 ISR's, managers are tasked with 15% on PIPs. The goal is to reduce each team 12-15 isr's by Q4.

@bf

The only thing I could see to limit the stampede is like what they did at Microsoft. They offered a package of age plus years of seniority. The one-time retirement program was available to U.S. workers at the senior director level and below whose years of employment and age add up to 70 or higher.

VSP? Dream on.
The stampede out the door would be breath taking.

@ay

I would hazard a guess that more than 15% of the population will be going for it.

That is huge news if true.

Do you have anymore information on this?

Just learned a new model VSP voluntary separation plan is going to be offered to all Americas based employees in early June and goal is to get 15% of non contract employees to leave and then forced WFR to fill any gaps. And back to broad based WFR in September and then December…, same ol’ thing except this new VSP thing

No major changes.

Heard it might be capped at 26 weeks, but 1 week severance for every 1 year of enslavement.

Plus your prorated bonus.

Severance is often tied to agreements where the departing employee:

  1. waives the right to sue,
  2. agrees to confidentiality terms,
  3. avoids disparaging the company

paying several weeks or months of salary can be cheaper than litigation or reputational damage.
