Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

How do you deal with the toxicity?

I've been here for a little over two years and I have already noticed that my mental health is suffering. My biggest issue is the manager who loves to get us together for a meeting where he berates us individually in front of everybody. Usually, it's for things that have very little to do with us in the first place. This is putting pressure and stress on all of us. I would quit, but there are positive sides of the job that I don't want to lose, including the great pay. I'm just not sure how to deal with the whole thing and keep my mental health intact.

As others said,if the manager is a major ahole eventually it will catch up with them. HR generally isn't going to do much when it comes to day to day business , unless the manager is blatantly using discrimination or se-ual misconduct or something major. It never hurts to record abusive behavior and keep that "in your back pocket" in case it ever becomes a point of contention, whILe HR may look down on it, it will help protect you legally if push comes to shove and it's he said vs. you said and matters escalate to labor law levels.

You will not have the same supervisor forever. Either start looking for another org/job internally or wait it out until he leaves

Don’t record the meeting and provide to HR like someone suggested. It’s written in the COBC that you can’t record. That will definitely get you fired.

Wait a minute, why is HR getting a bad rap? They have a reputation of always doing the right thing. In this case I see HR siding with the workgroup not the manager.

If I worked for someone like that I would make their lives miserable. Get together with your co workers and have every single person file complaints with HR. Escalate until it stops or he is removed.

HR is absolutely not your friend. They represent the company, not the employees.

Go to HR immediately. HR is your friend, ask me how I know. I've been in HR for over 30 years. Believe me when I say we have ways of dealing with managers like yours. No one should have to work under a manager that is unethical with a hatred for their workgroup.

I have 22 years now and have gone through 13 first levels. They come and go. You will have a new boss soon, I promise.

Be like so many other and quietly quit. I quietly quit 5 years ago but am still on payroll.

I’ve had 5 managers over the last 6 years, so yes they do come and go rather quickly. Of the 5, I had one major a.ho-e that was out to get me. He’s gone, I’m not! Wait it out is the best advice!

It's just words. Don't react emotionally to it. Decent chance the behavior will stop if there isn't any response to it.

Never leave because of any one manager, they will come and go over and over……. Do your best and wait it out or look in career path for another gig
